cf card reader problem

cf card reader problem

2012-06-04 by freddy1771994

Hi,

I bought an Emax 1 with cf card reader and slim floppy drive from group member jammie.emma which works fine. But in consideration of the fact that I have 5gb of emaxII (working with zip100 can be annoying then), but only a few hundred mbs of emaxI sounds (the internal ZIP I bought doesn't work eiter - but that's a different sory) I wanted to mount the cf card reader into the emaxII.
I did so, but it doesn't work.

It's easy to describe:

1) The emaxII simply does not see it or react on it, if the cable is right round on the pcb.
2) I hoped, "ok maybe it's the other way round than I used to have it installed when the harddrive was in." I did it and now all the lights were continously lit. After having it switched on and booting from the floppy the display completely refused any kind of work and it's turns black after the "Loading Software" message.

No worries; I didn't mess it up. When I put it into the emax I angain it worked fine.

Do you have any ideas where this problem might result from?

Thank you very much!!!!
Freddy

Emax 1 uses SCSI ID 0 for the CF drive.
Emax 2 uses SCSI ID 1 or higher- did you change the jumper?

If not- that would be a reason why.

Thank you for the fast answer. Where can I change the jumper?

Depends on the drive model

thanks ted i never owned a emax2 so i said to freddy to contact you as you
owned one he has a pcd-50b

i fitted the drive and slim floppy drive and converter to the emax1

but he wanted to put it in his emax 2

freddy the jumpers are written on the drive you need to put the jumper to
scsi id 1

Re: cf card reader problem

OK:

I found out how to change the id.

Let's say you're looking on it from its backside.

On the left there are the possiblities to change the write protection (no jumpers set) - That's not needed

On the right are the id jumper settings. It looks like this ::
                                                            ::

The top two pins are the termination; it is switched on with one of these jumpers, but i don't know which conection I have to make to select the correct id. Furthermore I have no jumpers at home....

Thank you!

it is the jumper closest to the connections that chooses between ID0 and
ID1.
But you must have a jumper for it....

thats becuase the drive only comes with it set to scsi id 0 and the termination jumper on

there should be some on the broken zip drive

Thank you for answers. Yeah I tried this jumper, but it seems to be to big. Give me a few minutes I will try if it works with this jumper.

Fantasic Ted!!! Although the jumper was too big it works. The EMAX II recognized the card reader and I'm currently formatting a cf card!
