time out error is bad floppy disk or miss aligned heads
on the emax compared to the floppy in the pc are you using ddsd disk or hd as hd disks can fail very quickly or not write properly due to the dsdd magnetic pulse signal being to weak to write to the metal film of an hd disk

Thanks, that was really helpful. I've got Software Rev 3.2 written to disc now, and verified.
But when I put it into the Emax I just get a TimeOut Error. I've already used a Disc Cleaner on the drive so:
- Do I need an earlier version of the OS? If so can you suggest which version on in the Files section.
- Do you think the drive might need replacing (this has been hard to tell until I had the right OS)
Your help is much appreciated.

you need to put the image file into the os folder in the emxp folder all os go into this folder
all other images sound disks and sf2 need to go into images folder
if you dont put images in these folders emxp can see them as it looks in these folder locations
the akai folder is for akai format files

Ok, really please pardon my ignorance on this one. I've got the emax-os folder on my desktop. Is the image file in the EXMP folder? And do I just drag and drop it into the OS folder?

Hi
Quick update. I've installed Omniflop successfully and have formatted a DD disk. However, I'm struggling to load the right operating system onto it.
I've downloaded the emax-os folder, but I'm not sure how to get the emaxos.emax system onto a formatted disk.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Do I need to format the disk in my Emax? At the moment if I install a blank disc I'm just getting a 'Not Formatted' message, but it won't actually let me format it. Kind of chicken and egg problem I guess.
It looks like I need the OS working before I can format a disk in the Emax?

Hi Ted,
Thanks for the info. I opened up the unit and it doesn't have any of the SCSI options.
1) Eprom is IP349
2) TIM Pal IC's do not support SCSI
3) No 5380 Controller at IC6
Looks like I need an earlier version of the Operating Software. Any suggestions how to create a start up suitable disc using EXMP. I've got an old XP PC that can run EXMP so could I create an Operating Disc from this?
Cheers,
Bill

HD OS 1.1 expects you have SCSI.
Usually if you have a wrong OS you will get "Wrong Software Rev" or similar.
If you have SCSI you could use HD OS 1.1 or PLUS OS 1.0 (which supports
external SCSI devices as well as an internal).
Check if you have it by reading here:

Ted
