You can open any PlugIn as a non floating (i.e. normal) window by holding command/option while double-clicking the plug entry in the mixer channel. If you then change EXS's Edit view to Controls view, any parameter including instrument-selection can be controlled by +/- keys after first being selected/'highlighted'. So no need to open the Instrument Edit window. Apologies if the above has been mentioned before, i haven't been following the thread completely.
