Easy remapping?

Easy remapping?

2003-10-20 by Wesley Griffin

I've been searching the archives of both exs- and logic-users and
combing the FAQ. Maybe I'm missing it, maybe its not possible :) I've
got an exs instrument (that I converted from a Giga file). It has
multiple zones on each key and spans about 2 octaves. I'd like to move
the zones on one key to a different key. I want to do this for each of
the keys. For example, on A#1, there's a dozen zones. I'd like to move
all of the zones to D#2. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? I'm
currently just selecting each zone and manually changing the key
parameters, but its taking me a while :) Thanks for any information,
and sorry if this is a faq.

In the Key Commands window, type "zone" in the Find box. This should
show a.o. the invaluable "move zone inc. root note up/down" commands,
which is probably what you're looking for. Assign a key to those
commands, select all zones you want to move (shift-click), and save
yourself hours of work and a bout of RSI :-).

They're here! I got them today. Still converting....but so far...so
good. I'll report more later.

Yes, they are great! I got them last week. I only encountered one
problem which had to do with the fact that the .gig names were too long
for EXS to recognize. All I had to do was shorten the names, and voila!
Buying SAM librarires is really a no-brainer... ;-)

Re: [EXS] difference between EXS and Giga

Ok...as far as the release triggers go.
I'm comparing a CDXtract conversion with the internal one. The
internal exs converter dropped the release samples and their group
completely. Simply didn't convert at all.
On the MW front it appears that sometimes it works sometimes it
doesn't. I just did a simple conversion Sam Trumpets Effects- MW
switch between 2 different "takes" of a cluster. It converted
correctly. But in more complicated setup...take for example one of the
Kirk Hunter Solo String programs, the converter has trouble....

Julie-

Your results seem to jive pretty well with what Maarten at Project SAM said
to me regarding the various translations. Here's his quote:

"Internal Giga import of EXS is not too good. Surviving controllers and
features are tuning and keyswitching. The rest of the program will disappear.
Crossfade layers will just get stacked. Release triggers won't work.
When I last tried CDXtract its conversion was ok, but kind of the opposite
of internal-EXS. Crossfading was there, but keyswitching was not.
Translator I haven't tried."

I've had a heck of a time getting the SAM Trumpets into EXS24. I couldn't
even copy most of the .gig files from the DVD to my hard drive, as my Mac
reported errors and unreadable files. The ones it could read were truncated
even though I have the Joliet reader. I was able to copy all the files
using my PC, and so far I've translated just the main section programs
using Translator (with proper file name reading on the Mac). Both the mod
wheel and keyswitches seem to have come over, but since like you I don't
have Gigasampler I can't tell how accurate the translations really are. In
addition, the louder samples are outrageously hot, forcing me to turn the
level down at the EXS program level---making the softer samples almost too
soft to use. I have no idea what's up with that!

This all seems like a frustrating waste of time, and I'm inclined to suffer
without the trumpet library until SAM posts their own EXS versions which
are promised "on the short term." Of course, even then success will hinge
on whether or not the original conversions created proper sample sets. Kind
of makes me wonder why I don't just go out and get GigaStudio. Let us know
if you meet with success---or failure---in your efforts to translate SAM
Trumpets, and I'll do the same. Thanks,

Hi Sean,
Are you on OSX? and what version of CDXtract are you using? I haven't
checked every instrument extensivly..but I know that using CDXtract to
translate...I'm getting release triggers, key switching and the MW
programs seem to be functioning properly. I'm between projects so I've
converted the entire library but haven't used it to speak of...but I'm
not running into anything too strange.

About 10% of the names are truncated on conversion. I can send you a
gif of the program names to help if you would like. CDXtract will
convert from your DVD so you don't need to copy files. My luck with
Translator on this library wasn't as good. Not always the case by any
means. I always try them both cause they have different strengths.

I've often thought of just buying Gigasampler....but I'd have to buy a
PC too..

I'll keep you posted,
julie

Sorry, should read "until 4/16." (early morning dyslexia)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
