[LAM] Urgent -Losing editor window option on Instruments

[LAM] Urgent -Losing editor window option on Instruments

2003-11-16 by Simon Binks

Logic 6.3.1 G4/400 / 512 RAM / Digi 001

When I open the Autoload Song, I can open all the Instruments
and the Editor windows open as they should.

However, as soon as I open the 'Movie As Float' I need to work
with, when I attempt to load a synth into an instrument track, I am
given the following error message:

'Direct I/O Resource Fork Not Found (-10109).'

Thereafter, I can only open the Control display, not the Editor
display for that (or any subsequent) instrument.

I nheed the QuickTime float to complete this job, but working the
new Logic Instruments from the Control display makes it really
hard to get the sounds I need.

Appreciate any help.

Simon, when you updated to 6.3.1, did you move the .res files (and
the <Res> folder) into your Logic app folder? It sounds like you
either moved just the new Logic app to your old folder or somehow
missed all the files from the update.

It could also be that you need more RAM (you have 512 Mb). How much
have you given Logic (if you're in OS9)?

Colin,

Thank you for replying.

Where do I find .res files? Where should I place .res files when I
do find them?

I updated v.4.8.1 to v.5 and then to 6.1 off the CD's and then
updated to 6.3.1 off the Logic site.

I just moved the VST instruments out of the Logic VST folder,
stored them in a separate folder on the same drive, and then
replaced them into the new VST folder.

Apart from that, I just followed the prompts but didn't see
anything about .res files.

I've been trying to work out how much RAM to allow for these new
versions. I've guessed at a minimum of 135,000 and a max of
160,000.

I'm running Waves & TC plugs and Reaktor on occassion.

I'm also noticing sync issues as others are reporting on this site.
In the Logic 6 Reference-Addendum, it makes reference to a'DV
Out' option I should find in the Global Preferences menu.

There is no such option in my 6.3.1 Global Preference menu.

I'm going to try trashing the preferences (system) but before I do,
I woud like to hear more about .res files.

Appreciate your help.

Simon Binks.

Hi Simon,

When you run the updaters, you get a whole bunch of new stuff.
If your Logic app is in the place the updater expects to find it,
then new files are installed there. If your Logic folder is
elsewhere, a new folder called <Logic 6 series Ÿ> will be created.

There should be a folder called <Res> in this <Logic 6 series Ÿ>
folder with these files:
EFX_Res.shl
EMX_Res.shl
ES1_Res.shl
ES2_Res.shl
EVB3_Res.shl
EVD6_Res.shl
EVOC_Res.shl
EVP88_Res.shl
EXS24_Res.shl
Sphere_Res.shl

Mine are all v1.7.x - check to see if you have these files and that
they are the latest versions. You need need to run the updater again.
(use the Mac Find to locate these if they're "lost")

That should have worked fine.

I give Logic over 410 Mb, but I have 2Gb of RAM installed and I'm
running lots of Spectrasonics instruments which need extra RAM. You
have to juggle your RAM between Logic and the MacOS. You can always
open <About this computer> in the Apple menu to monitor your memory
usage while you're loading plugins.

You'll find it in the Song Settings menu, right at the bottom, called <Video>
I think that if you have a firewire device attached or a DV device
like a Dazzle, this option will work.

Hope this helps....
