I use the EXSP24 and was wondering if anyone uses (and likes) the Xtreme Analog collection/samples from Emagic. I am in a debate over whether to add an ES1 to my Logic Gold set up or just add the Xtreme Analog samples . Thanks, Kendall

Haven't used it much yet, but it's pretty good -- within the limitations of a sample library, that is. It's no substitute for a real analog synth obviously, since it's less 'tweakable' because of it's being sample-based. On the other hand, the range of sounds they used is quite broad, and covers most 'classical' analog sounds. So if you're looking for e.g. a fat Moog-bass, chances are good you'll find it in the library. If I had to put it in one sentence, the verdict would be "a good general purpose library with a broad range of analog sounds for people who don't want to spend too much time tweaking their own sounds". If you want to turn 10 knobs and faders simultaneously to achieve that whizz-bang weirdness-extravaganza effect you're after, then you're better of getting a real synth. Regarding the ES1: I've used it a bit in Logic-4 days and was _not at all_ impressed by it. House-techno-dance basses and base drums: fine. But for the rest...??? I don't know if it has changed much since v4, but if not, I would never consider spending money on it. Seems to me that the ES2 would be a better option. Or, if you're really into wild sounds and extreme flexibility, get NI's Absynth for example. For classical analog there's NI's Prophet 5 emulation, the Pro-53. OTOH, I've heard bad things about NI support and their AU-conversions, so I don't know if anyting NI-related is a good idea at this point in time. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

They are nice rich fat juicy analog type sounds. And the sampler instruments are set up and organized well. And they are set up nicely to easily sync filter sweeps or other parameters to tempo if you want to, without too much tweaking necessary. I have the ES1 as well. I like it but admittedly don't use it too much anymore. It isn't really that "sophisticated" a plugin compared to what else is out there these days. But it's still fun to play around with. And it's got a nice big fat sounding filter that you can use as a sidechain to run other audio through if you want to. It's also fairly easy to sync various parameters to tempo if you like that sort of sound. -- Eli Krantzberg Nightshift orchestra / Almat Productions http://www.nightshiftorchestra.com

I've had many a good starting point from that set. Quite unbelievably Emagic give it away free with the Big Box thingy! Adam
