EXS 24 Logic Sampler Users Group

I'm having quite a bit of trouble with the legato tool (vsl opus/logic 
6/os 9). it seems to work fine quite often, but every now and then 
I will get into a track where it seems to insist on getting stuck. 

Even if a note is a new articulation, clear of any other note by 
beats, it still sounds the legato version of the note, as if it was 
connected to the previous note still. Any note I play at that point is 
the legato approach sample from the previous note, even if that 
previous note was played stacatto seconds earlier.

If I reboot it is good for a pass or two, then gets stuck again. 
What can I do? Any ideas?

It's a common complaint that several people have voiced on the VSL 
Forum.  We are all waiting for a "real" fix to the legato tool.
In the meantime you select the track in the arrange window which has 
the errant exs instrument and press spacebar.  This resets the tool.  I 
find I sometimes have to press it a few times to reset.

Many people are having this problem.  You'll find a string about it on the
VSL forum.  What they told me was that sequencers in general send out info
that live players don't and the tool was designed for live playing.  One
thing that helped me a bit was to turn off all "Chase" functions in logic.
That way you can be sure very little is going to the VSL tool except note on
and note off.  One sure way to fix it is to record the performance you like,
solo it, and freeze it.  Also, you don't need to reboot.  Just open up the
legato tool and click on the reset button.  VSL says they're working on it,
but the problem is complicated and very deep, so don't hold your breath!

Mine is set to play/stop.  I too have trouble with it.  I wonder if 
losing the assignment to a transport function would improve things?  
Just thinking out loud - I don't have much time right now to test this. 
  If you try it and see an improvement, please let us all know...

I agree.  The length thing drives me nuts.  So far I've only had to use it
on short passages, so I hit reset, play & pray.  Since everything is
automated, and I don't have to move faders or do anything, it's not the end
of the world if it glitches.  Just annoying.  So I stop, wind back, and play
& pray again.  Geez, and it only cost $5+ grand for this neat toy!  Love the
VSL, hate the Legato tool.

As far as playback versus live, when my legato tool breaks(as it seems to do
randomly, mostly working just fine), it is broken on playback _and_ live
playing too, even if the sequencer is not running.

soloing and freezing is fine, but getting the track made can be brutal,
because one often wants to edit the length of notes, but when the tool is
broken you can't hear the real lengths(as the legato notes are usually quite
a bit shorter).
