importing downloaded akai samples

2004-03-23 by Matthew Johnson

I have downloaded some free akai samples that sound really cool but
can't figure out how to import them into EXS24MkII. It seems that it
only imports from CD. I searched the archives and couldn't find any
more info. How have others converted akai downloads to EXS
instruments?

Thanks,
Matthew

"Akai" can mean S-1000. "Akai" can mean S-3000. "Akai" can mean S-5000.
"Akai" can mean Ford. "Akai" can mean Chevrolet. (But it doesn't mean
Chrysler.)

Since you "downloaded" them, and since you've actually heard them, I
suspect you have Akai S-5000 Program(s) and sample(s). That means .akp
file(s) and .wav file(s).

The EXS-24 imports Akai S-1000 and S-3000 CD's, but not the S-5000 format.
Those are proprietary formats and there isn't really any downloadable
format for them, nor would you be able to listen/audition them (although
there are esoteric ways of doing it).

You'll have to shell out $$$ for one of those cheesy third-party conversion
programs you keep hearing about.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid something like this might be the
case. I wasn't aware of the variety of Akai formats. The S5000 .akp
with wavs are what I have. The samples are of vintage keyboards,
synths, and other instruments from
http://www.hollowsun.com/vintage/index.html. The sound very cool.
Maybe someone with one of the converter apps can convert them and share
the EXS instrument files... Anyone interested?

Don't do it! Those guys are just a bunch of thieves getting rich
without doing any work.

Heck, anyone can convert samples in their spare time.

Hi Ron,

You could give CDXtract a try, as it supports Akai S5000 programs. I've only
heard good things about it :)

Check it out at: www.cdxtract.com
Good luck,

Sebastian

Oh, it gives off an orange cloud of light,
that just flows right out over the sea...
