The Maestro tools uses the Sustain pedal to switch on the legato mode where with
the correct instrument loaded with use the correct samples to create the legato
effect. Once the sequence is recorded you will find additional notes recorded
several octaves higher (sometimes lower) which trigger a second bank of samples
to fill the gap between the standard samples. The Sustain pedal simply switches
the legato mode to the "ON" state and the sustain pedal message do get digested
in maestro tools never to appear again. If they have successfully triggered
the sample switches they have done their job.

If you load a "LEG" instrument and open the edit window and play - with the
Maestro Tools active and the SUSTAIN PEDAL down for the whole of the passage
that has to be legato - you can see the switch of samples in the keyboard
display.

Stuart-

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This actually explains a lot about how
Maestro Tools works in general. I was worried about the fact that when
legato mode is active, everything Logic receives becomes mono. Now it's
clear that Maestro Tools affects what is recorded and can be turned off for
playback. How I could have missed the extra samples recorded in the
sequence is fairly embarrassing, but unfortunately not the first time I've
missed something as obvious. Thanks again.

I am currently working my way through GOS and carrying out the tasks
listed below.
If anyone thinks I have got my ideas wrong than please write
correcting my
assumptions.

1. Removing WARM instruments. These can simply be reproduced by using
a channel eq.

2. Renaming Instruments to create shorter names as there is a limit
in EXS and excessively long names get their ends turned to BinHex?

3. Not sure about this one since I'm now only using OSX and if I
revert to OS9 (other than by running classic) some of my drives which
contain files
with long names may suffer the same fate if I start in OS9 and open a
folder. Oh the
point here is that I think in OS9 (or could it earlier versions of
Logic) the conversion
of gig files results in sets of instrument which start with their
name whereas now I am
getting numbered instruments from 00 onwards. This means that where
long names
aretruncated their is less confusion where the names after the number
appear to be
thesame. This is particually useful as I am trashing all instruments
which end ALT 88
and just relying on the ALT version but you have to load then to
check which is which.

4. I am setting all EXP instruments correctly so they switch samples
from the mod wheel and grouping them in a separate sub folder

5. After I have completed this rather mamoth task I will backup all
GOS instruments to DVD.

6. If anyone thinks it would be useful to have a copy of these edited
instruments write to me for further details. Note sample will need
re-referencing in
EXS manager.

[EXS] GOS EXS instrument set

2004-07-02 by Sean McCoy

Hi GOS users!

I've just finished going through the GOS Giga library and tweaking it for
EXS. It's not a 100% complete set, but pretty close. Nearly all the EXP
instruments work well now, but I wasn't happy with any of the instruments
with release samples and deleted them (along with all the WARM patches).
All the work was done using EXS's Giga import in OS9, so I've modified all
the instrument names that were truncated during import.

I've spoken to Gary Garritan about it, and have his ok to make the set
available to all EXS users. However, since I know there are several of you
who have done similar work with the set, and since I ran into a number of
problematic patches, I'd like to get together with you with the idea of
pooling our EXS instrument sets to take advantage of everyone's efforts.

Anyone who's interested can post here or email me privately to discuss
specifics. If I don't hear from anybody in the next few days, I'll just
post my set to my FTP and put a link here.

Is anyone aware of a similar project to convert the GPO to EXS format?

I don't have GPO, but my understanding is that inclusive sets like GPO
cannot be converted since the samples are in a proprietary format.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
