Nothing. That's a limitation of Logic, you can only play one virtual
instrument in realtime.
There's a nice workaround though (better don't ask why they didn't
incorporate that into Logic straight allready).
Do the same as you described (the channel splitter job that is).
Now insert an I/O plugin on each but the first cabled EXS instance (as that
one would be playable in realtime anyways), setup any I/O there and then
bypass the plugin.
Halfway technical explanation: By inserting an I/O plugin Logic would assume
that your track is a "live" track, so it would reduce the buffer size to
your latency's amount and "activate" it.

Sascha

Hello,
Thanks Eli and Sascha between your emails I got it to work. Here's
what I did (I'm using Logic 5.5.1 on an iMac G4):

I had to use an instrument (New>Instrument) as the channel splitter did
not work for me (only track 1 would sound with the splitter).
I routed each out of the instrument to a separate EXS24 track and
bingo, once Logic started playing all of the EXS24 tracks would sound
together. (I record enabled the 'Instrument' track in the Arrange
window.) I didn't have to use the plug-ins at all. I guess the only
thing is, is Logic has to be running for this to work. If logic is not
playing/running then only track 1 will play (even with plug-ins muted
on each EXS24 track)... kinda strange but workable.
    Thanks again,
   Doug Michael
