Do you for example have "GM Standard Kit.exs"? Should come with the EXS.
If so, I could do you a template.

Sascha,

Quick question. Is it possible to use multi-out EXS 24 and apply
affects within logic to each different sample?

I may be asking incorrectly, but what I would like to do is to have one
multi-out EXS instance and then have a different verb on snare and hats
and toms, etc. I know I can do this by routing out to analog to effects
processor and then back in, but I am not sure how to handle natively or
if it is possible.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm not Sascha, but I'll jump in here anyway..... Yes, you can do this.

The multi out puts you set up in a multi channel EXS instrument need to
be instantiated as inputs in some free / available aux objects. So each
output you assign gets it's own aux object with that specific EXS multi
out assigned as the input.

So, assign the specific samples you want to treat to unique outputs,
and they will then have their own corresponding aux object where you
can treat them uniquely with various plugins.

Ok. I think I see what you are saying, but this still means I have to
assign to outputs and then take a feed off of that to an aux and then
ultimately mix it down to 1&2 say? This means that I will have used the
outputs even though I am not actually outputting any thing from them,
correct?

Sorry , trying to understand logic.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I might answer here if Eli is offline.

The outputs you are assigning to are virtual objects internal to Logic's mixer
- they are not the physical outputs of your audio interface (altough you could
assign them to physical outputs).

If you want separate processing of elements of a kit - snare, hats, kick etc -
you need to send them to separate channels within Logic's audio engine - in
this case they are called outputs and aux objects as you state.

The fact that you mix them back down to stereo is neither here nor there - to
use an analogy - if you record a band and put guitars, bass and vocals on
separate tracks you are most likely going to mix them all together down to
stereo after you have processed them separately.

You are treating the kit in much the same way - as a bunch of separate
instruments which, for your convenience, can all be routed to one bus (a group)
to give you a stereo drum mix or all independently routed to the main outs.

Murray

I would like to add that you can still treat a multi-out patch of the EXS as
a plain stereo instrument, even if you have separate outputs assigned.
You'll just have to load it as a "plain" stereo/mono instrument.
So, modifying all drumsets to be multiout ones won't harm older songs or
whatever.

Exception: Recycled files that you still want to extract grooves from. In
that case setting up multiple outs will mess up the extracted MIDI data.

Sascha
