Is there a way for me to "auto" map tons and tons of AIFFs loops and .Wav loops so I can use them in EXS??? Is mapping them manually 1 by 1 by 1 for hours on end the only way to get them into EXS??? SOMEBODY SAY IT AIN'T SO!!! :( Somebody Please Help, Maestro

If you find something which matches your loops (i.e. mapping by filename) you can automap. If not, it won't take hours but rather days... I think we can't blame EXS for that. How should it know where you want the samples 'bdrum2.wav' and 'longloop.aif' to go? But I would like to have a better interface where we can drag the samples around (and hear them and read the names) before they go into the editor. Peter Ostry

I've used the method below to create new EXS24 instruments derived from loops in .wav format. I would assume the procedure is the same if you've got .aif files, but I've never done it with those: Copy your .wav file folders into your EXSamples folder. Open Logic (the autoload template will work fine for what you need to do). From the toolbar, choose Audio - EXS24 Instrument Editor - Instrument - New (this will bring you back to the EXS24 Instrument Editor screen, but this blank template will now have a temporary name, ex., #4167). From the toolbar, choose Zone - Load Multiple Samples. Go to the location where you saved your .wav files (the EXSamples folder) and select the group of individual .wav files you want to use for your new instrument. Highlight the .wav files and click Add File - Done. You will then be prompted to choose a mapping method: Auto Map, Drums or Chromatic. Choose Chromatic. This will bring you back to the EXS24 Instrument Editor screen which will now include Zones and Group(s). NOTE: when mapping chromatically, be sure not to select more files than you have keys to assign them to - (no more than 61 files if you're using for a 61 key controller keyboard, etc.). From the toolbar, choose Instrument - Rename. This should bring up the "Save Sampler Instrument As" window. Name your new instrument and click Save (the .exs file extension will be added automatically once you save). Open up the EXS24 and check the list of instruments, the new instrument should now appear. For the purpose of organizing, you will likely want to create a main folder within the Sampler Instruments folder and save your newly created instruments there. This can be done before or after you've created your instruments, but if plan on creating a ton of new individual instruments, you may find it helpful to do it before you get going. It may take one or two times to get the hang of this, but it's really easy and quick once you do. The procedure is the same for creating new pitch-specific instruments (basses, synths, whatever. . .), except the Auto Map mapping method should be used. Good luck!! John F.

LOL!! The method I described may not be exactly what you were looking for in terms of "auto" mapping, but it will definitely allow you to take fairly large groups of individual .wav loops and put them into a form that can be used by the EXS24. Again, once you get the hang of it, this procedure goes pretty quickly. If there is a better and/or easier way, I'm all ears. John F.

But I've noticed that, if you do this, you always end up with the samples playing all the way through (in one-shot mode). This is a bit of a pain for some samples. Is there any way to keep it from doing this (other than editing each zone individually, I mean)? I hope so, as my Kurzweil will do this easily. Cheers, Laurence
