I'm considering reconverting my Akai CD's to EXS format and am wondering weather any have comments either way on which might give a better conversion out of Chicken Systems Translator or the EXS's native conversion. I have found exs' native conversion to be quite slow. Sometimes, the conversions don't work well but, for the most part, it does an adequate job. That being said, I personally feel that Chicken Systems Translator or CDXtract are better overall in conversions. For basic stuff such as loop libraries and whatnot, exs conversions are usually okay. Any libs which have more complex programming are usually converted more completely by one of the 3rd party solutions and, especially, much quicker. If you only have one CD, probably might not be worth it to buy either software. If you have several though, I would say that it is worthwhile. You can get a specialized version of Translator for a cheaper price (ie it will only convert from Akai to exs and nothing else) and then upgrade at a later date if you need to. That might be another option for you. HTH, Fernstudio [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Thanks for the quick response. I actually own a full copy of Translator which is why I wondered. I have about 15 Akai CD's worth converting so I think the answer is use Translator and then clean up all the duplicate samples which both Translator & EXS conversion bring, using the Project Manger or really splash out and buy EXS Manger which everyone seems to rave about.... ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Paul Najar Jaminajar Music Production www.jaminajar.com

I think that it is worth it to have EXS Manager. Project Manager is so slow that I can't stand it. I have a lot of samples, both legal 3rd party sample libraries and a bunch of my own custom sample libs, and it was so painful to have Project Manager go through them all. What took hours to do with PM, only took a couple of minutes (this is *not* an exaggeration). HTH, Fernstudio [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hello : My vote for CDxtract . It´s more flexible and does a great job.
