I would appreciate some kind of reply from you, I emailed you on the 22nd and 30th May and see that you've recently been posting mails on the EXS group, so I've resorted to posting here in the hope that'll receive some kind of support or acknowledgment from you . They have left all their customers on the Mac platform hanging. The 'Upgrade' that should bring the mac version of their 'Translator' close to the Windows version's functionality has been promised - and never materialized - for several years now. Over on the Motifator forum people have been wondering why Yamaha chose this company to develop a sample translator for their Motif line - so far there is still after all this time no support in the Mac version. It is in the Windows version - so it should be a relatively simple matter of porting the software. Personally I haven't even got the app. installed any longer - went with a competing product with a company that seems to care just a little about their customers.

We lost some emails (a couple days worth) recently and your mail was probably included. I've responded off-list. We're always available via phone also. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

When people post to public forums about customer service issues, it always gets silly because it draws out people that say things like this: >I wouldn't sweat it with this company. >Over on the Motifator forum people have been wondering why Yamaha chose this >company to develop a sample translator for their Motif line Firstly, Yamaha never chose anybody for anything. Secondly, no one ever has said anything about this to us. Somehow people choose to complain on public forums without thinking to ask the source, which would be us. I think its a form of cowardice to send unsigned messages (such as this one) to public forums, talking in third-person about someone or about a company. I don't show this person as registered owner nor have I seem him contacting us at all. And why would all these people be talking on the Motifator forum, without talking to us about it? Seems pretty non-constructive. We get about 2-3 inquiries a MONTH about the Motif. We get 2-3 inquiries a DAY about EXS-24. We work our development around the apparent interest level. Nevertheless, Motif support on our Windows version has been complete for over a year. I don't want to make personal judgements about anyone, but it's something I have to deal with frequently and it's sort of depressing, because I like to think the best of people. >this time no support in the Mac version. If anyone has any questions about Mac development of Translator, contact us directly. >Personally I haven't even got the app. installed any longer - went with a >competing >product with a company that seems to care just a little about their customers. How does taking our time to get it right equate to not caring about our customers? The matter is more complex than that, I invite you to ask us directly about your concerns and we'll answer you. Give us a call - we answer our phone, and we answer our emails promptly (Mike's was an exception). Sorry to take up bandwidth on the public forum here; I'd advise anyone with customer service issues to contact us directly. We do answer our phone, we do answer emails. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

When do you plan to upgrade the Mac app (asked upon a mostly Mac-based group of EXS users)? Robert F. Vandiver, M.D.

Nope, sorry to be a bit cranky (Monday). >When do you plan to upgrade the Mac app (asked upon a mostly Mac-based >group of EXS users)? Planned a long time ago, working on it currently. Hi there
I'm the one who posted the 'offending' post - and I do agree, that it sucks that I left it
anonymous. This was unintentional.
Anyway I am a registrered user of Translator and have inquired about this with Chickensys
- now a long time ago, as this upgrade was promised 'within 2-3 weeks' 2 years ago. The
response to questions on their forum/emails has alway been: in 2 - 3 weeks.
Here is what Yamaha happily reported about their translation options for the Motif:
'We have been working behind the scenes with Garth from Chicken Systems.
He had already started working on a translator program for converting different sample
formats to Motif format including the synth parameters like amp and filter EGs.
Several weeks ago we provided him with complete documentation on the Motif format
under NDA so that he could both quickly finish the convertor and also that it would be
extermely accurate.
This will be in fact the first time to our knowledge that a version of Chicken System
Translator will be both developed with format information supplied and authorized by a
synth company.
Garth said that he should be finished very soon and we wll be looking at ways to introduce
it to everyone.
We think that this will be a really nice addition to the many software tools that are
availabel for the Motif and ES,'
This was announced on 09/28/03
Still to this day no support IN THE MAC version of the software. I might add nothing else
has been upgraded in the Mac version in the past 2 years - all the while the Windows
version seems to have had numerous upgrades.
In these 2 years the Mac platform has gone from OS 9 to various incarnations of OS X,
latest the Tiger. My Translator simply will not install in Tiger - another reason why an
upgrade is sorely missed.
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, and certainly have nothing personally against Garth -
for all I know he is a great guy - but as a Mac user, I do feel left in the dark re. Translator.
Sincerely,
Kim S. Hansen

We did finish it, in 2003, for Windows. Not too many people have shown interest, though - but that's typical with that sort of unit. I don't know what "format information supplied and authorized by a synth company" means, though. It makes good press, though. >Still to this day no support IN THE MAC version of the software. I might >add nothing else has been upgraded in the Mac version in the past 2 years >- all the while the Windows version seems to have had numerous upgrades. See our Forum on Northern Sounds. There's a thread that discusses this. >In these 2 years the Mac platform has gone from OS 9 to various >incarnations of OS X, >latest the Tiger. Not really, there's another reason why that doesn't install - it has nothing to do with Translator itself. Contact us and we'll replace your CD. I've replied to you privately as well. >I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, and certainly have nothing personally >against Garth - >for all I know he is a great guy - but as a Mac user, I do feel left in >the dark re.
