Nonono!
No need to do that. A) the patch will still load fine when using a plain stereo EXS. B) You can use the imdividual outs inside
Logic, routing them into Aux objects (for the outs to appear in the Aux objects input selector you simply have to load the EXS as a
multiout insttrument). That way you got individual (internal) audio channels/faders for each of the individual instruments!

No.

It *should* work like this: Place the samples *anywhere* (beside your other EXS samples or whatever), rename the ones with more than
31 characters accorinf to my descriptions, now load the patch into the EXS. It should find them automatically after a while.

I'm sorry, can't recreate any Mac related here as I'm using 5.5.1/PC.
Will try things out on the conservatory's Macs one day, but right now they're both used.

Sascha, thanks again for all your help. I know how busy you are these
days converting and map making for other formats as well. Wayne

Sascha, there is no problem, in Logic 7 it works exactly like you
describe it. I used ExsManager and it works also.

Perhaps of interest for people with ExsManager:
If you don't rename the samples, ExsManager will not take them and
shorten the names on its own. You get an error which looks like the
samples or the instrument are not working. But just believe what
Sacha said and rename the files. Then everything is ok.

If Andrea Gozzi is listening here:
Maybe you find the time to check ExsManager with sample names longer
than 31 characters? So far I have seen it does not correctly react to
that.

Hi again Sascha, these drums (listening to the individual samples)
sound great and well worth the problems so I'll stick with it but!
I've tried everything including directing the project manager. The
very first time I load it, I do get the hats but that's it. The next
time... nothing. Next I took all the samples out of their individual
folders and placed them all in the "Drums 1" folder. Nothing. I've got
tons of other instruments and drums in the exs and have never had a
problem like this. I tried stereo and multi. I don't think I missed
any of the files that needed a name change and followed your
instructions carefully. If there are any other Mac guys out there (and
I'm on Logic Pro 6.4.3.) that have downloaded the drums and have no
problems please let me know. Thanks Wayne

:-) NEVER Mind... All is working fine and my mistake was that while
removing the -AAX from the files in the hats-2 folder I also removed
it from the... HHats-CL-V01-SABIAN-AAX.wav and this was the problem.
After double checking all the files, this was the problem. Hope this
also helps some other idiot as well. Thanks again Sascha and I'll be
looking forward to possible future maps to drums 2 and the extra
symbal perfomances if you are so inclined. Egg on his face.. Wayne

The EXS mapping for kit #2 is done. No sample renaming required this time.

That was fast, thanks so much Sascha. These are really good sounding
drums. Wayne

Excuse me for asking the obvious but: are we changing
the name of the samples and not the patches and, if
so, how exactly does one do this?
Thanks, JP

The patchname stays the same, only the samples have to be renamed. You don't know how to rename filenames on a Mac? Using a PC I
don't know either, but I'm sure it's easy to find out...
Personally, I'm using a batch renaming tool, makes things easier. Again I'm sure there's something like that for Macs as well. I
mean, hey, they "just work"...

On a Mac click the file name once, wait a second, then click it once
again. It will then highlight and you can rename it.

I know it sounds like a dumb question but i think my
real problem is with the sample file that i
downloaded. I just remembered that there were 2
choices: A "preferred" one and a "mirrored" one. The
preferred ian't working out so I'm in the process of
downloading the "mirrored" one. What's the difference?

There's no difference, it's just two different download occasions to take away some server load.
Simply make sure to rename the samples as described in my little ReadMe.

Well I must be doing something wrong here because when
I download (Mac 10.4.2) from either server, it takes
over 20 minutes, and it mounts as a 181 mb text file.
It opens with text edit and I get pages and pages of
printed gibberish but no samples in sight. What have i
overlooked this time? Anyone?
Thanks, JP

The samples file is in a RAR compressed format, and I don't know a lot about
Tiger (I'm still in OS9), but I'm pretty sure you need a utility to decompress
that file. Otherwise, your system won't know what to do with it. Have you
tried to use UnStuffit - isn't it standard in OSX? If that doesn't work, you
could go to a shareware site and look for a RAR utility for OSX.

As far as the file types go: Just rename them to .rar in case something went wrong with the download. To avoid this in the first
place I think "save as" is your friend.
RAR files can be expanded using the latest version of Stuffit or MacRar.

Thanks for the exs24 mappings Sascha. Here's a tip on renaming the
files for any other users of these mappings.

Renaming files is really fast if you use CK Rename. This little app is
PC only but I guess the PC emulators on Mac would support it.

http://www.musicsucks.com/CKSoft/CKRename/

If there is a Mac equivalent perhaps someone could post a link.

Murray

I use A Better Finder Rename:

http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/

It's a contextual menu plug-in that you launch after selecting the files to
rename, then there's all sorts of options. Worth paying for if you rename
batches of files often. It's the best "application" I've seen for this sort
of thing on the Macintosh. There are others, but they are mostly RealBasic
crapola.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
