It defenitely is sample accurate - switch on "samples" in the view options and zoom in, you can see a mark each 2 samples and you'll
also be able to select the samplepoint between those two.
But then, there's very little help in finding looppoints or navigating around - Logics sample editor is rather ancient. Let alone
you won't be able to save looppoints to a file (even if there is a function supposed to do so, IIRC), so all you can do is indeed
stripping out the raw loop without any attack phrases or so.
Oh, btw, you might have switched "search zero crossings" on. While this makes some sense on certain cuts and the likes, you may not
want it for small cycles.

If you were on PC I'd recommend WaveLab - it's unbeatable. Also there's Zero-X Seamless looper, another gem for anybody into
sampling.
No idea about the Mac side of things, sorry.

Hi Sascha, I see that the editor is in fact sample accurate. I guess the problem I'm
experiencing is that a single sample often falls on both sides of the zero crossing making
it very difficult to extract a single cycle waveform or loop. An example might be: striking a
bell and then trying to grab a single wave cycle (post attack) for creating an ambient patch.
I know DC Offset can cause zero-crossing problems, so I always make sure and deal with
that before editin - either by processing the file through a Low Cut Filter or by using the
algorithm in Logic's Sample Editor.

I think I will try a test and record a sinewave into logic, like the one generated by the EXS,
and see if I can grab a single cylce without any glitches.

Thanks, Matt
