mtp midi freak out

mtp midi freak out

2001-12-06 by T. Kelly Mason

I know it's a little OT, but i figured exs users would be a bit more
keyed in to midi issues.
Can anybody offer up any suggestions?
my midi in LAMP has been getting worse and worse it is practically
unusable at this point

LAMP 4.81, G4 466, stealth port, MTP AV. macos 9.2.1

.
I replaced the battery and completely reloaded all my mtp internal setups.
mtp works perfectly in all free midi applications and my live setup
(directly cabled-i.e midi channel 14 only goes to 1 output, 1 synth)
works perfectly.
In logic my vst instruments work great.
absolutely perfect.

It is when I try and output from logic back out to my midi units.
I'm getting random patch changes and stuck notes and just tons of
garbage really.

tried turning clock on and off.
tried blocking mtc output in logic and using event filters on the MTP
tried running mtp at fast speed (didn't work) and 1mhz
replaced a bunch of my midi instruments.

I notice that the behavior of "search for mtp" and "mtp cable mode"
checkboxes is a little erratic too.

Any ideas what I'm missing here, or are the rumors about a conspiracy to
stop supporting anything except unitor true?

A friend of mine runs LAWP (windows) and had similar problems. He got rid of
the AMT in lieu of the Logic MIDI I/Os (24 channels of flawless MIDI) and
hasn't had a problem since. I picked up a Unitor for my dual-G4 and the midi
is rock-fricking-solid. Totally blows away OMS. Finally, my timing problems,
latencies and other anomalies with Opcode's 2-in/2-out are gone. After Logic
4.7, OMS deteriorated rapidly for me. Kind of irritating from a financial
standpoint, but at least the Emagic products are superior to anything prior
I have heard in terms of timing. -Jer

Yes, USB. Your latter paragraph makes me a bit nervous then. I hesitate to
state that the logic hardware will solve all your problems if the support is
supposed to be direct with the current I/O. Still, serial support is falling
to the wayside, and my friend did have a lot of similar problems (albeit on
a PC). My best guess is that it would, but I don't feel comfortable stating
so without a doubt. I would bet however that all logic hardware will get the
greatest push and it is the best long-term bet. The choice, I'm afraid, is
up to you. Good luck.

Thanks Jer-
so now you are using the Unitor over USB No?

the midi timepiece doesn't use OMS though.
It has direct support within logics drivers... no OMS to blame.

The drivers to use Logic over a serial port interface seem to have been
totally screwed up by recent changes in the midi engine.
I'm just wondering if the've been abandoned or if they'll be brought back into step
on v5
