I've got the akai Siedlaczek library- There has been little combining done- I would
expect more for this price. As an example, clarinet...loud and soft sustained notes
are separate patches, but it's VERY easy to combine these in exs and do velocity
switching, though with only 2 levels, some patches can be pretty noticable when
switching. Then you have 14 other clarinet patches...staccato, grace notes, runs,
flutter, etc. You could combine these into an exs patch however you'd like. With
some sort of switching enhancement, you could do a lot....

Again, this is a good example of when velocity cross-fade switching would be
very, very helpful. EMAGIC: I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING!!! -Jer

just further to this quote of my LUG post:

I did not hear Phil Jackson mention mention of any specific timetable for
the sorts of enhancements he spoke of. He talked about where the EXS24 is
heading -- eg toward possible Gigastudio format compatability perhaps and
Roland format compatibility.

At one point he flipped open the extras editor for parameters at the bottom
of the EXS GUI and there were like 40 parameters instead of the 8 or 10 in
4.8. He said we might get a second page of the GUI or something. Things
like velocity crossfading and switching were part of the revamp of EXS as
was improving the editor.

He also mentioned better access to rapidly stepping through patches --eg
declare a "Performance" directory and have the option of stepping with the
up and down arrows through the patches there.

Hopefully we'll see these enhancements in 5.2 or perhaps later in the year.
The EXS24 is such a great tool I really hope they make building
instruments and auditioning patches easier.

Murray

Thank you for sharing these insights. It's very encouraging to hear that
Emagic is weighing these issues. I hope they understand the importance of
it. I wonder if they'll include multiple outputs, filter-per sample, etc.

There has been precious little in the way of enhancements to the EXS24
pre-Logic 5.0. This is probably connected with the long delay getting
5.0/LC to release. In fact, on the PC, we even_lost_ the ability to
change parameter (eg one shot) in all selected zones. So I suppose that now
that Logic 5.0 is released and the LC issues are just about sorted Emagic
are going to revisit hthe EXS in a big way and rework the instrument and
the editor.

I would imagine that the developers working on it have all kinds of things
on the backburner -- ideas they have had and tried out -- only some of
which make it into the release versions. I read somewhere a while back that
Clemens developed the essence of what became the EXS24 as a home project
and took it along to "show and tell" at Emagic -- we're all very glad he
did I guess ;-)

Murray

Hmm, it seems that I have read conflicting statements about this. I thought
someone else said that you could hold down Control (I think) on the PC while
you changed something, and it would apply the change to all selected zones?
I seem to remember that the poster said something like selecting multiple
zones and doing this was a -new- feature in 5.0, not something that 5.0
broke.

Can anyone confirm if this really works in 4.8.1? 5.0?

No big deal really, my little 'conflicting messages' alarm just went off
when I read this. :-)

On my machine:

Works in 5.1 - select multiple zones, hold Ctrl and click "one shot" works
for all selected zones.
Fails in 5.0.

Can no longer confirm in 4.8.1 I'm afraid (but hey, that's a whole different
gripe...)

Steve.

Correct. For Windows users it was introduced in 5.1 (Mac users could do that
for a long time allready). Unfortunately the "one shot" option is the only
thing working for multiple zones (yet).

Sascha,

It seems to work okay for all the check box options in 5.1: disable pitch,
velocity range, one shot, reverse, and loop... or am I missing something?

Steve.
