Storing samples on an external hard disk

Storing samples on an external hard disk

2003-04-04 by hicknarvey

Hi all.

I'm soon going to be purchasing the Vienna Symphonic Library
(EXS24 format) and I'm going to want to store it on an external
hard disk for instant recall into the EXS24. At the moment all my
samples are stored on the hard disk of my Mac but there isn't
space obviously for 90 Gigs of VSL! Do I need to create a VSL
alias within my Sampler Instruments Folder or do I need to move
the whole Sampler Instruments Folder to the external hard disk
and create an alias in my emagic folder? I'm a little confused on
this matter and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nick Harvey

Your Sampler Instruments folder only needs the instrument definition files. The
folders full of samples (the vast bulk of that 90 GB) can be on any drive
attached to your system. They do not need to be in a folder called Sampler
Instruments. the Audio files for the EXS24's default instruments do not go in
that folder either.

Murray

Thanks Murray.

By this do you mean that only the .exs files need to be in the
Sampler Instruments folder and the audio files (aiff, wav, etc) can
be elsewhere?

Best regards,

Nick

Tecnically, no. The original exs instruments can be anyplace; so long as there are at least alias's of them in the sampler instruments folder.
