Well, let me be totally honest: IMO there is _no_ excuse today for a slow site
or a site that won\ufffdt load with different browsers. I am (for instance) still
having trouble with Emagics site someday, using Netscape.

The point is, that most people DO NOT need animated drop-down menus and stuff
when it comes to gathering information or downloading demos and updates.

We all can see, that the most often visited sites of big companies like CNN,
big german newspapers or Ziff Davis Net etc. NEVER use such gimmicks \ufffdcause
they want to attract as many users as they can.

The REAL problem I see are these "nice" development tools used for designing
websites. Especially those of Microsoft make it very easy to implement things
that won\ufffdt work with anything else than the Internet Explorer (at least not
in a correct way)...

Cheers,
Thomas

Hear hear.
Just visited Emagics site and just cancelled it as it's simply inacceptable
having such a slow site. Loads of "funky" stuff loading in background while
I'm sitting here waiting - nothing for me, seems to be a great fashion these
days though.
Actually companies should offer some plain text site in addition, install a
counter and see which site will be visited more often. As far as Emagics
site goes I'm sure that after your first experience the "design" version
will get no hits at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love nice webdesign, but from companies such as Emagic
I want information and slick design, that's all.

Hi Sascha,

well, you even do not need a plain text site ;) to make loading fast and
convenient. Mostly, when I do webdesign for my customers (Banking companies,
communities etc.) it is necessary to view all(!) results with at least three
or four different browsers and check all results. Furthermore, I do not
use (currently) flash etc. because this is nice for the first time, but
bothers people if it\ufffds still there after the 3rd time ;)

Personally I like the design of the site, BUT: This site could be easily made
without using any proprietary code etc. and it definitely would function
the same on IE and Netscape.

IMO there always should be a balance between a "nice-looking" and
"fast-loading" site, as well as the compliance to all necessary browser
platforms. Personally I know a lot of sites that even won\ufffdt load if you
have javascript disabled or no flash installed. Well, there are my
"one-visit-wonders" :)

Bye

or even if you do have all the vells and whistles. I try visiting the
Imtermusic site [future music etc] and all i get is a blank page with a
banner, on either NS or IE. Its just not mac-compatible it seems.

I just tried both Emu and Emagic: Emu is very fast over here, and Emagic is ok
too, although a bit slower.
