New feature requests

2002-07-12 by noision1

I have added two new feature requests but will repeat them here for
Sean:

1. External USB flash card reader implementation; either an E-mu
unit, or implementation for an existing 3rd party unit for non-
computer backup and restore.

2. POWER BUTTON: Ack! After having this for only a day, I have a
couple of times narrowly missed having a power down inadvertently by
brushing the ON/OFF button while Filter Tweaking. I caught it just
in time only because my eyes were generally fixated on the screen.

I can imagine the horror of horrors in live use that all the other
distractions will cause when this happens and you DON'T catch it in
time!!

My solution (actually Waldorf does this well): You have to press and
hold the power button down for 5 or more seconds to power down; a
press of any less duration does nothing. Viola, no more accidents!
This seems easy enough to implement and makes sense, right?

The USB connector is a slave connector. That means that it only
connects to a master (like a PC). You cannot plug in a drive or
anything to the XL-7, just as you could not plug a USB mouse into a USB
hard drive.

That was the original idea, but the hardware precludes it. You could do
what I've done: Remove the little plastic button. You can still power
on and off the unit by sticking your finger in the hole or by using the
switch on the back. Try it, you might like it!

why not add a menu somewhere (if the hardware permits it) that just
disables the power button. then the user has the option of it being
effective or not. or the actual power off command could be in a menu,
or you could have to hold another button down at the same time. just
an idea though, i've never hit it accidentally. it comes from using
mixing consoles for live engineering, cos if you hit the wrong button
(ie mute instead of solo) the instrument disappears. even more
important when mixing monitors for jumpy overimportant rock stars.

keep on pushin' (and turnin')

Chalk up another one in IL.

I am in Chicago, north side. I might be up for a gathering somewhere. I don't know much or have alot to offer, but I'm willing to learn of course! I don't have a car, which leads to my hesitation to meet a group of people somewhere. Gotta love the el.
