It looks like people here have given you some excellent docs. In case you want more about the FZ, you might try: http://www.buchty.net/casio/index.html . He has a copy of the FZ programmers reference there. I think it is less user friendly than the docs others have posted here, but it is available if you want it; it might have some details the other docs don't have. Good luck to you. no you and summa have been a great help , i have a day or two off work so i will roll the system back and find whats involved. my plan is to basically make the fz dump program , but for an atari computer . i guess you'd need a hard drive to store all the data on witht the atari , but i use the emulator on my pc to work out ideals then transfer to atari as for page thirty i would trust any thing some one has written unless you try it for your self. charles

The protocol on page 30 is correct I think - trouble is it details the handshaking and "REMOTE" mode - but I have no idea what the Hex is for this - I think Steve's doc shows all the hex - so it is a matter of working thru it - when I tried a dump to MIDI ox it produces some bytes that do not show up as SYSx - it's all in the dox - but it is more complex than standard dumps,I think my brain may burst. :-) --- On Wed, 21/7/10, charlie midi gfa <charles.copp@...> wrote:

Yes I think it is the flowchart page - sometimes ADOBE numbers the page differently than the actual document as it includes the intro pages - so they can be up to 10 pages adrift of the actual page number - it may well be page 41 of the doc - yes it was a flowchart of handshaking - I know in principle what they are talking about,as the CZ was supposed to do it - but when I dump from the FZ to MIDI-ox it is preceded with 16bytes that are not coded as SYSx (ie no F0) - and when I try Andreas's program - 16 bytes get sent - and then there is a TIME OUT - so I presume the program is waiting for an ACK from the FZ - which it never gets - there is reference to "REMOTE MODE" which I noted it was in when the DUMP was being done - but I do not know how it got into that mode. --- On Thu, 22/7/10, charlie midi gfa <charles.copp@...> wrote:

The protocol on page 30 is correct I think - trouble is it details the
handshaking and "REMOTE" mode - but I have no idea what the Hex is for
this - I think Steve's doc shows all the hex - so it is a matter of working
thru it - when I tried a dump to MIDI ox it produces some bytes that do not
show up as SYSx - it's all in the dox - but it is more complex than standard
dumps,I think my brain may burst. :-)

lee you physically have to place (with your hands) the fz to device"midi" and then move pointer to " remote mode "on the fz once this is set it wants a remote midi code the ok midi then close midi codes make sure you're program is reading the bytes as they come in after each request or signal to the fz or else you'll bung the fz up causing data error. got mine dumping so far beta day #1 accomplished communication wait for day 2 charles

I am still having trouble with TIME OUT - the setting "REMOTE" is set - but this does not seem to be alterable - that is it stays on REMOTE - is there ever a point where it does not say that? ====when transfer occurs it says "executing" O right under remote no the "remote" always seems to be under my observations of the fz ==== I have tried sending the REMOTE CODE but not the OPEN code- and also - when dumping manually from the FZ "SAVE" (to MIDI) 16 bytes are sent - but I presume the FZ is waiting to be acknowledged from the PC- but I do not know what to send it - thus I presume is why it times out. ===it all can be done from the computer, right now i am only doing the computer side of things send or recive can be initiated from the computer so you don't need to use the fz after you set remote mode , and leave the cursor at the remote place(don't goaway from the remote mode ) =========== I was hoping there'd either be a direct dump from the FZ or a "dump request" command from the PC - as it is with the CZ - t here still seems to be the need for handshaking?? ====i think my last comment touched on this there are 4 modes load save merge verify there are 4 states full dump voice dump bank dump effect dump ================================ ==== i kinda clueless too because i send for an effect dump , it loops 16 times telling me its sending data i acknowledge the data , then near the end ...(.14 1/2 acknowledge,ok midi) it finally sends some data but like always get a different check sum within these 128 byte packets???? don't know for certain but got it sending and never error charles

sent - and then there is a TIME OUT - so I presume the program is waiting
for an ACK from the FZ - which it never gets - there is reference to "REMOTE

know how it got into that mode.
