Loading Roark Curves for MIS Inks

Loading Roark Curves for MIS Inks

2002-04-21 by bellis33624

I've installed the MIS variable mix inks in my Epson 1160 printer.
I'm trying to load the Paul Roark curves for these inks. However,
when I open Photoshop, select curves, select "Load" and enter the
file name (1160pc.zip) I receive a message to the effect that this
file type cannot be used with this version of Photoshop (Photoshop
6). I don't know whether this message means that zip files in general
can't be used or that this particular curve file can't be used. In
any event, if anyone has any suggestions as to how this curve can be
loaded with Photoshop 6 (or can confirm that it is simply not usable
with Photoshop 6 or can provide access to a different curve for the
variable mix inks) I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Hi bellis60,
The ZIP file is a compressed archive file that contains the curve
files (curve files have an extension of .acv) within it. The ZIP
file must be decompressed using a utility program, such as
WINZIP...assuming you are using a PC. If U R on a MAC, I think you
can accomplish the same thing with Unstuffit.
If you don't have the necessary programs, do a search on a site such
as CNET, and you'll be able to find the programs.

Good luck

Mac Gurus - need help with Mac/Pc network for B/W printing.

2002-04-21 by Michael J. Kravit

I am trying to connect a Mac G4 to a PC. I have both the Windows 2000 PC
and the Mac both hooked up to the network via Cat 5/6 cable with a hub.
I can ping each machine from the other. I have enabled AppleTalk on the
PC.

I don't know much about the Mac OS-X and can not get one to see the
other.

We are trying to set up this connection to use the PC as a
scanner/printer machine and the Mac to run Photoshop 7.

Anyone know what I need to do to make them see each other so I can share
files.

Mike

Hey Mike when did you get a Mac?

Here are three links that will help you out.

http://www.macfixit.com (go to the forums for help)

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/macnpc.htm

http://www.atpm.com/network/

Best,

John,

Thanks for the great links. I was at a friends house and he was running
a new Mac G4 Dual processor machine. I tried it out with OS-X and really
liked the interface. So i ordered one. It came in on Friday with
Photoshop 7. MS Office for Mac, and a very cool 22" Cinema Display.

Now I feel like a dummy trying to learn how this thing works. Of course
I have my PC hooked up to the drum scanner and printer and had to dive
right into a very complicated situation.

John,

That is what I have been hearing as well. So believe it or not I
ordered it 10 minutes ago. It just arrived via email.

...rather new in digital photography I would like to know why you
switched to a Mac to run Photoshop (7)? I am doing all my stuff on a
Win2k box at the moment and have had ofcourse some trouble with all
these (double, triple) driver and profile settings but now the system
is working fine. What is the advantage of dedicating a PC to
printing / scanning and working in PS on a Mac? Is PS better
implemented on a Mac better than on a PC?

I had the same problem when trying to install Pauls curves for the
variable mix inks. After several conversations with Paul I tried
downloading them with a different web browser and voila they worked
fine.

This is easy -

.zip files are a compressed file format, they need to be uncompressed
before you can get at the goodies inside them. Run that file through a
decompression program like Stuffit Expander or Winzip, and then you
can access the .acv files stored inside it.

Goof luck :)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
