Quoting from the MIS site regarding these seals, "Be sure not to
puncture the new seals. When the cartridge is installed in the printer,
the printer posts will puncture the seals, just like on a new
cartridge." According to their description it sounds like they would
hold a vacuum. Jeff have you bought them before Is that how you know
that they already have a hole in them?

Alas, I could not find where to buy them on the MIS site anyway, I saw
the explanation on how to use and install (partially quoted above) but
could not find where to purchase.

Thanks,
Mark

Don't despair yet, Mark. You can try calling Bob Zeiss, he's got to
have some lying around he can sell you. Also, I am POSITIVE I saw them
on one other site months ago, I just can't locate it now. Spooky. I
thought it was We-Ink site or possibly Mediastreet, but I can't seem
to find anything but ink carts on We-Ink now...maybe I'm getting them
mixed up with someone else.

The other site even had a detailed procedure for refilling carts using
vacuum with these plugs, so I know they worked for a similar
situation. Maybe search over other sites?

Thanks you have been very helpful. I can not understand why MIS would
have them on their site but nowhere to purchase them. I probably should
call them ask to make sure.

I think the only place you can get them is Inkjetmall.

Mark,

While I was doing some testing with hand loaded carts. I pulled the CIS
carts out and set them on the printer with the lid open just above the point
where the CIS arm ends. I plugged the bottom cart holes with the rivets from
MIS. All the ink ran out of the tubing and back into the bottles. After
about 10 days I changed the black CIS cart using a vacuum fill and installed
it along with the old color cart. As I started doing nozzle checks,
cleanings and purge prints ink was pulled back up out of the bottles and
into the color cart. Basically the pumping action of the heads is enough to
suck ink out of the bottles or the CIS wouldn't work.

When you flushed the ports with Windex did you just push the Windex through?
When I did this I also pulled the syringe back putting suction on the ports
to pull any debris out to the nozzles. You might try this again. Push Windex
through until everything is coming out clean on the paper towel underneath.
Then let the Windex stand in the nozzles for several hours and then suction
it out to get out any chunks that may be too large to go out the other side.
If this back flush is not clean you might want to repeat it.

Did you try running some Epson carts?

I had the same problem on my 1160 a few months back. I tried everything
that you mentioned. I finally gave up thinking that I needed a head
replacement. I took it to a local Epson warranty repair shop and they
unclogged it. The tech showed me what they used. It is a janitorial
cleaning product called Speedball 2000. He had just soaked the pad and
let the head sit on it for 48 hours. After a few cleaning cycles it was
a perfect nozzle check.

Thanks.

I think the later.

This finally did the trick, I have been trying to clear this bugger for
over two weeks. I actually used a similar product to Speedball 2000 that
my local janitorial supply house carried and let it set in the head for
24-36 hours. Soaking the pad did little to bust up this clog it was only
by filling the head with the cleaner and letting it sit like I did that
it finally cleared things out.

> Did you try running some Epson carts?

This helped but it did not completely solve the problem. The new Epson
carts cleared everything expect for four nozzles in the black head.

Thanks everyone,
Mark

Mark and Everyone,
About three months ago I tried using my 1160 after it had been
sitting almost a year without being turned on. I tried and tried to
get rid of a clog in the black tube and cart of my CIS. I contacted
Nomorecarts and they suggested several solutions and I read
everything Inkjetmall had on the subject. I tried the syringe with
Windex and Fantastic.
Finally in desperation I took the tubing off of the black cart and
ran a small wire into the tube and worked the plug of ink loose
and the ink started flowing again.
The 1160 works fine now and I won't let it go unused for that
length of time again.

Mark,

Thank you very much for getting back to the list and letting us know what
worked. Too often people ask questions and various answers are given, but we
never hear about the outcome.
