The 1280 IS the 1290 outside the U.S.

Hi,

I have found it here in NL as well after longer search (sorry I am living in NL even my e-mail is .se). And I also have found workflow for it as well for others at www.inksupply.com by Paul Roark.

What is the difference in final print between 1160 and 1280 using MIS VM?

I thought so, but my budget is currently used also for buying other stuff, but maybe later I will second one. My primary goal is b&w.

Richard,

I am glad you found a local source for printers. If you go with the
MIS VM inks, check back with the group before you start, to see if
you have the most recent curves. The MIS site is not always up to
date.

I have seen excellent prints from both. There has been a lot of
discussion about PiezoBW on the 1160 and banding issues that seem to
be very dependent upon the individual printer. A really good 1160
makes really good Piezo prints. This may be less of an issue if you
are using the Epson driver with the MIS VM inkset.

People are just now starting to use 1280's with B&W ink sets so there
isn't much information at this point. If there is a difference, it
may be that the new design of the 1280 offers better paper handling
and less banding issues but there is no evidence to support this at
this time.

If cost is a consideration than go with the 1160. The 1160 also has
the advange of having more choices in terms of ink sets and software
than the 1280.

Let us know how it goes.

Jerry,
I can´t believe that.
I have an 1290 with MIS VM inks.
If I use Paul´s 1280 curves (Mac or PC) the results are awfull.

(Paul, I sent new 21 step prints from all your curves with my print
exchange picture. Maybe that works better than scanned prints
via e-mail.)

Or is anybody out there using Paul´s curves on a 1290 with
success??

Bernd

Bernd,

I am really sorry to hear there is such a difference between the 1280
and the 1290 drivers. I wonder what Epson's reasoning is for this.

Did you try the latest set of curves adjusted for a media setting
of "Photo Paper" with a 1440 or 2880 dpi?

Martin
