Do you know which black you are using? If it is the co-solvent black - that
ink has a nasty habit of drying out, even inside tubing of a CFS/CIS. I
tossed my co-solvent black & am now using the Eboni exclusively. You have to
order it from the UltraTone inkset, or specify it when you phone MIS.

Checking the 1160 with OEM Epson carts is good advice, too.

Good luck,
BK

thanks for all the pointers folks.

I have sucked the nozzle with the fat syringe and gottten the black
ink flow.

I have also tried epson carts with great success - printed the 4 col
purge pattern properly. And also the regular test pattern.

But when I reconnect the quadtone inkset - back to same problem.

From what you've said it could be dry ink in the tubes ? But then why
the flow when I pulled it through with a syringe ?

actually, maybe I'm wrong about the 'flow' i just tried again and i
think the ink is only from the cart not through the lines - I'm
pulling like crazy on the syringe and cant see any movement in the
line

I never could clear my clogged line even after separating it from the
cart. I just got another from MIS. They'll just send you a single tube
and you tape it to the remaining other three.

Maybe you could do a "roto rooter" job with a piece of fine wire

You should be able to pull enough ink through there to completely
change the ink by the cart and just recycle what you pulled out back
into the bottle.

The "roto rooter" job will buy you about 2 weeks... good enough if
you need to print right now, but get new tubes from MIS... even my
new tubes only last ~3months. Maybe I should try the eboni ink...
any comparisons in output??

Pulling the ink through with a syringe means your tubes are not blocked, but
that does not mean your cart is functional. I'd get a new cart & a new tube
from MIS. Strip the old K tube from the CIS/CFS ribbon tubing - you can
attach the new tube to the old tube ribbon with cable ties (not too tight)
or cloth tape. I'd also use the bottom fill method for this new cart (less
chance of introducing foam in the cart).

This is also an opportunity to switch to the more reliable Eboni black.
