More to the point, considering the bad press to 2000P received; is a 2000P a bargain at $200 (or at any price)? Chuck Peacock

I've been trying to sort this out myself... the price is soooo compelling and it would be nice to have an archival color printer to go with my quadtone 1160. Anyone using a 2000p for color? The bad press seemed more geared for glossy paper while I found good press with matte paper. Anyone have more details? If it is more an issue of Epson not telling people that the inks don't work with glossy papers it might be a minor point for me. Hey, even the 2200 doesn't do great job on glossy paper IMO. thanks, mark --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, cpeacock@c... wrote: > More to the point, considering the bad press to 2000P received; is a 2000P a bargain at $200 (or at any price)? > > Chuck Peacock

It's got some metamerism problems, and although that's of course worst with B&W images (using color ink), it shows up in color images, too. It's probably best as a print engine for use with 3rd party inks. -- Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Paul mailto:pderocco@...

Mark; I guess it depends on what kind kind of color inks you are going to run with in the 2000p. With the Epson OEM inks the resulting prints suffer from major metamerism. That is the biggest fault I find with the 2000p. - Jeff

>It's probably best as a print engine for use with 3rd party inks. > Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Yes to third party inks...this is why I posted the Staples link. The 2000 with Epson inks suffer from the worse metraisum and I would not use Epson inks in this printer. Here's links to see the dot comparison of six ink Epsons side by side: http://www.silverace.com/dottyspotty/issue93.jpg As you can see the 870 and 780 Epsons are touch smoother than the 2000. BUT...when compared to the 1160 the 2000 is so much smoother: http://www.silverace.com/dottyspotty/issue92.jpg But I'm getting beautiful dot free smooth prints from my 1160s with Piezotones and QTR. If I didn't have two 1160s and two 1200s I would by a 2000. John V.

Two additional thoughts... 1) The 1280 has a higher max resolution.. 2) You could potentially use MediaStreet Gen 6 or MIS GP Archival Color Inks in the 2000P and profile to avoid most of the metamerism.. I'd probably still prefer a 1280 though.. the printer is actually good, it is maybe a little slow. it was mostly the ink that was a problem, i think it would make a very good quad printer. je --- "Editor P.O.V. I had no problem with using my 2000P with Epson color inks --- got beautiful prints. B&W was another story though I never tried any 3rd party inks or curves. I have used Premium Luster, matte, and Epson's watercolor paper and have been very pleased. Though no warranty, my 2000P with good nozzle checks and never a problem is going on EBay for $125 plus shipping. Have new 2200 and using older 1280 for B&W. Anyone interested contact me privately. it DOES make a nice machine for B&W with the MIS FSE five greys and Generations 4 Black. Browse the posts over the past week re: 'Epson Genius ...' I have spent many hours tweaking a curve to optimize these inks with my 2000P. It is a PictureWindows Tint curve. You also need, as I just found out, to test the Cyan and Magenta nozzle sets and select the one with the least microbanding - if any, and then install the inks accordingly. If anyone wishes to try, here is the Tint curve for the Cyan set. Install the greys as in my previous posting... There is nearly an hour of effort for every ascii character. And maybe a few tweaks still left, but it works pretty well. Perhaps a team effort can finish it....... It will print a 100 step greyscale without reversals and with visible gradients in each. I imagine all the benefits of the 2000p are lost if you are not printing large images. Due to the latest work of Paul - it would seem to be a better idea to pick up a C82 while they are still available. --- Mark Hahn <markhahn2000@...> wrote: > I've been trying to sort this out myself... the > price is soooo > compelling and it would be nice to have an archival > color printer to > go with my quadtone 1160.
