I have been using eboni black only printing with my new epson 2200 . I amd using a pc MSxp pent 4, with PS CS and epson enhanced paper. I would like to try quadtone now . What do I need for software? What is the recommended route to go. I presume I get my inks from MIS but the software and cost will be a factor Jerry in Toronto

(See http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/qn.html ) I have the inkset (which is like UT2 for the 1280) running in a 2200 with the Epson driver. No other software is needed. The UT7 inkset is a variable-tone B&W inkset that can be printed from any application and cover the tones medium warm through neutral just by adjusting the Epson driver sliders. With Photoshop or Picture Window, however, much more flexibility is available. With (free) image adjustment curves the inkset goes from sepia to cool. It also prints on gloss or matte paper when Eboni matte black is installed. So, the MIS UT7 inks are all you need to buy. MIS or I will supply curves. I read on MIS's website that if you use a CFS system, you should make a print every day to avoid problems with the CFS system. I do not make prints every day. I make 4 - 6 prints per week. Should I use a cartridge system instead or do MIS inks (including UT7) give more problems that Epson UC inks? Thanks. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@v...> wrote:

I use MIS inks in a MIS CFS and frequently go a week, sometimes two between printing sessions and have no problems. I don't even bother to turn the printer off. Some have problems, I don't. It may be humidity related. I live in FL where the RH seldom gets below 50% in the winter with the heat running. MIS does have a free software package that prints a purge test every day to alleviate problems. But I know nothing about it. Just buy prefilled carts until you're sure you like the inkset. Leaving 3oz. of ink in a 4 oz. bottle and buying new CFS carts can get expensive. (But you WILL like the UT2, assume UT7 is the same) Bob Michaels --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "luisvcool" <lvictoria@t...> wrote: > I read on MIS's website that if you use a CFS system, you should make a print every day to > avoid problems with the CFS system. Ed, I suspect MIS will release UT7 when I have a chance to load and check the production UT7 inks, which I received last week. I have draft curves for EEM, PhotoRag, Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl/Gloss, and Premium Semigloss/Gloss/Luster. I hope to check and finalize these next week. I'll probably add Epson's UltraSmooth and Glossy Photo papers soon also. Of course if there is a glitch in the inkset, it could be a few more weeks. Paul www.PaulRoark.com ________________________
