New 2200

New 2200

2004-03-11 by inpensione

I have a new 2200, and am getting very nice BO prints using the
methodology detailed by Clayton Jones. I've been using the Epson
ink set, but have ordered Eboni Black. I hope that improves the
slightly "non-black" look I'm now getting. I'm having one really
frustrating problem -- the borders are uneven. Always. I've tried
everything I can think of, including searching various forums for an
answer. I know this isn't a really exciting topic, but I hope
someone can give me some help on it.

I'm printing from within Photoshop 6.0 on a PC. I want to print an
image on 5x7 paper with .25 inch borders all around. My image in
Photoshop is cropped to 4.5x6.5 inches. My printer settings are
landscape, 5x7 paper size, centered, Epson Enhanced Matte, 2800 dpi,
black only. The print preview shows a centered image with wider
borders on the sides. The actual print has .25 inch borders on top
and bottom, and .5 borders on the ends. The image is compressed (or
clipped) to less than 6.5 inches.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's because of the need to hold the paper firmly while printing on it.
There's an option somewhere in the driver for centering it, but it doesn't
guarantee that you won't get a bit of banding on the end where the margin is
reduced, because it can't guarantee that the paper won't move a bit while
that end is being printed.

I think the "Minimize Margins" check box will prevent the compressing.
The centering is not always exact due to slightly different paper
handling, so I always print on a slightly larger paper and trim it
down to what I want for margins. I use several custom defined paper
sizes.

Clayton

Paul,
I did select the "center" option. The problem is that the margins on
both ends of the landscape print are too wide. They are .5 in.
whereas the top and bottom are .25 in. There is no banding, and the
paper doesn't move. I haven't heard of anyone else having this
problem, so it is probably some "dumb" mistake on my part. Off topic,
but where do you live in Italy? Grazie.

Hello Clayton,
Minimize Margins" works and the margins are .25 inches. There is,
however, a mysterious black band between the photographic image and
the white border. Any idea what that is? I'll be away from printing
for about 10 days (vacation, etc.) and will give your other
suggestions a try when I get back. Thanks very much to all who have
offered suggestions.
Dick

I'm talking about an option in the driver, not in Print With Preview. I
thought it was called Center or something, but someone else said that it is
called Minimize Margins in the 2200 driver. (I've only used it or the
equivalent with the 2000P.) I don't know about the black band you mentioned
in the other post, though.

And just because I say "Ciao" and have an Italian last name doesn't mean I
live in Italy. I actually live in L.A. ;-)

When you add the Epson 2100/2200 printer, you get at the bottom right of the
selection box the option to load a range of drivers/printers including
standard, roll, no margins etc or simply All. So delete the driver for the
2200. Then go thru the process of re-adding it but select All. Now when
you print to the 2200 you will get a range of 2200 printers. Try selecting
No Margins.

Rather than the "Center" option on the "Paper" tab in "Advanced", choose
"Maximum". You'll get a warning, click "OK". I get even margins every
time.
