What ink percentages would I need to create a BO ink Sepia look? I am looking to use a refillable MIS Mat Black cartridge with Sepia tones. Thanks, Robert

Robert, I doubt you'll be able to make a good matte sepia BO ink. The color MIS inks are not very compatible with the matte blacks. I suspect they will cause precipitation. Every time I've tried to mix (other) matte black inks with color pigs to cool the ink down, the dmax has dropped significantly, and it takes a lot of color pigs to have any impact on the matte black due to its very high pigment load. You might have more luck on the "glossy" side. PK is compatible with MIS UT inks. For an ink that would print with a reasonable dmax on, for example, Epson Premium Semimatte, PK plus 40% or so R800 Red clone ink might be interesting. The problem is that you might still want more yellow in it. Yellow is a high gamut but very low density ink. Its low density will dilute the ink and lower the dmax more significantly. Good luck. Robert, For the warmest BO printing with a good dmax, I'd try Epson UC Matte Black on a warm paper like PermaJet Alpha. Others may know of similar papers that print warm (and don't flake). If you are using other than a 2200, you can pull UC MK from a 7600 cart rather easily with a syringe fitted with an MIS bottom-fill adapter whose snout has been shortened to 7 mm. I sometimes use the UT carbon tone inks (no color toners) for reproductions of old silver prints. The tone matches quite well and the longevity is the best we can do. The UC MK is similar to these in terms of longevity and tone -- possibly warmer than the MIS UT carbon midtones and definitely warmer than Eboni. Again, however, I don't think you'll have very good luck mixing color pigs into the UC MK. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Try MIS Ebonie on matte papers (I like Epson Enahnced Matte) and MIS PK the other types ( Ilike Kirkland glossy and Epson Luster). This isn't the specific answer to the question, but I am achieving nice sepia in all shades with a 1280, MIS archival inks w/ebony black in the K position. This setup allows b/o printing, color printing, and sepia toning. It takes experimenting in P/S with "color balance" adjustments to get the specific tone you're looking for (hue/sat and channel mixer I gave up on)...also duotones give nice results. (If your monitor isn't callibrated with a colorometer though, forget it.) --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "scott_now_coming" <scott_now_coming@y...> wrote: > > Try MIS Ebonie on matte papers (I like Epson Enahnced Matte) and MIS > PK the other types ( Ilike Kirkland glossy and Epson Luster). > > Scott > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "coovert1912" > <backstagepass55@a...> wrote: > > > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Steven > > Karafyllakis" <steve@s...> wrote: > > > > > > --- In > DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "coovert1912" > > > <backstagepass55@a...> wrote: > > > > > > > > What ink percentages would I need to create a BO ink Sepia > look? > > I > > > am > > > > looking to use a refillable MIS Mat Black cartridge with Sepia
