MIS Inks: 2200 or C86?

MIS Inks: 2200 or C86?

2005-04-17 by mastedward

My dilemma is this: I am using MIS inks in the C86 for b&w and like the
results. I use the 2200 for color and think it does a beautiful job
there. However, at least 90% of my work is b&w. Would switching the two
printers make more sense; the 2200 with MIS inks for b&w and the C86
for color? Would I gain in b&w quality by using the 2200 for b&w, and
would I lose much in color quality by going to the C86 for that? I
have tried QTR, by the way, and like it. But I do occasionally have
problems importing the images into QTR. Printing directly from
Photoshop with the MIS inks seems more convenient to me. Has anyone
tried both the C86 and the 2200 with the MIS inks?? Thanks, Edward

Larry, you may want to ask this also in the Epson printer group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EPSON_Printers/

Look for Art Entlich who wrote an excellent cleaning manual and will
send it to you if you email him directly. Find his email addy from one
of his posts in the archives or just ask.

There is a way to carefully inject cleaning liquid with slight pressure
or vacuum directly into the ink nipple to get things going again. Are
you using the Epson inks or some generic? When I switch back to Epson
inks temporarily I usually am able to fix most clogs or loss of nozzle
prime.

I've run into some missing ink problems on my 890s that I have learned
are caused by not having an air-tight fit between the ink cartridge
where it plugs into the print head. The head was sucking air - hence
no ink output - and the ink was able to just siphon out of the bottle -
I run CIS. So, pull the cartridge and make sure the missing color has
an air-tight fit with the head unit.

The MIS cleaning fluid has a loser viscosity than the inks, the idea being
that it'll get through to where the problem is more easily. So, it might be
an option. I have my 7600 sitting -- now for over a week -- with the
cleaning fluid in it. The MIS supplier says that leaving it for a few days
helps dissolve the problems. I noticed that while no ink was getting
through one jet, the cleaning fluid got through it almost immediately. So,
for what it's worth, an easy-refill C86 cart with cleaning fluid in it might
be an accessory that is worth having around for these types of problems.

thanks Paul,,,, I'll give mis a try.......

I'm also curious about spraying a wax as a coating on my prints,,,, has
anyone tried anything like this???
I'm printing on arches cold press,,, its uncoated and has a great
texture as a watercolour paper..... a possible wax coating (thin
spray) could make this paper very interesting????

regards
Larry

Which Innova papers?

2005-04-20 by Arthur Fink

I'm just getting ready to test out the new Innova papers ... am interested
in your comparison among the four, both for black and white (I'm using MIS
UT-FS ink), and color (Epson 4000):
	Photo Smooth Cotton
	Cold Press Art
	Soft-Textured Art
	Photo FibaPrint

If you like Hahnemuhle rag media and would like to find something close to
that but with more durable surface, check out the

Photo Smooth Cotton - for a smooth texture but not quite as smooth as Epson
Ultra-Smooth.

Soft Textured Art - for someting similar to German Etching

I've been testing these for both color and monochrome and they are excellent
in all respects in my opinion. They seem to work well with just about
everything.

The Photo FibaPrint is less expensive and is a better replacement for
Enhanced Matte. I've only done things on it with the 8.5x11 samples but it
seems very nice also. I sort of reminds me of the Legion Photo Matte.

The Cold Press Art I have not tried so I can't comment on. The first two I
mentioned are excellent and you should definitely try them.

Cold Press is quite a nice paper. 'bit rough and chunky but pretty good
tonality + warmer tone and good dMax and form. The nice thing about
these sheets is that the emulsion bends outwards and not inwards making
it really great to run through large-format printers without jamming
problems. And it smells like tooth-past . . . . I'm working on some
color tests this week, more on this later.

take care, walker
