CIS carts - can they be emptied & cleaned ?

CIS carts - can they be emptied & cleaned ?

Can the CIS cart chambers from MIS be cleaned out if you want to
change from one MIS ink to another?

I had an incorrect inkset delivered (2 of the 4 inks - C&M), and the
2 incorrect ones are going to be exchanged, but I'd already started
filling the carts (vaccuum method not bottom fill).

I've not yet installed and punctured the bottom of the carts.

One can suck up most of the ink by pulling it back up the tube with a
syringe - what about the rest ?

Is it more viable to just mix it with the new ink and "print it out"
until exhausted ?

And can the tubing be flushed and reattached to the cart ?

Mis should send you new carts if it was their mistake! There
really is no way to clean the carts as the sponge in each
chamber holds lots of ink. I recently changed the my
Generation's 3 yellow to Generation's 4 yellow. I took about 60
sheets of an 8x10 purge image to get the old yellow out and then
I'm not sure if I got it all.

Don't waste your time - Mis should supply new carts for you.

Best,

John V.

Get new carts, start fresh. Those sponges hold a lot of ink, and the two
inks will probably intermingle so you'd never know when you were printing
with the true ink.

Tubing can be flushed with water and sprayed "dry" with condensed air (if
you have that red plastic extension which will fit into the tube).

Jerry Olson has do so successfully. I'll send you his procedure off list.

If MIS sent the wrong product, I'd guess they'd replace the CFS (if it was
one of their units).

You can also just replace the cartridge part of the CIS or CFS.

If the two inks that were wrong are just the wrong density, then it's going
to be a lot easier to clean the sponges than if the toner was in the wrong
position.

If they weren't MIS carts to start with, it might be an interesting time.

Hi,

i would be interested too in this procedure of Jerry Olson....i had a packaging error with Mediastreet and got 2 bottles of PhotoMagenta instead of 1 magenta and 1 pM. Now in the meantime they changed ink formulations, and my inkset is worthless......i have to change, so i ordered a new CIS, but i would be interested to cleanup the old one as a reserve for experiments.
