Question re QTR, EEM and 2200

2007-05-27 by alistair_owens

Forgive me if this seems to be a basic question but I am just starting
out in the area of BW ditigal printing.

I have downloaded the QTR software to try out but the results I am
getting seem somewhat dark. Smooth though. Is it possible that I am
double profiling or something? I am printing direct from QTR and I do
not have Photoshop.

Thanks and regards

Alistair

What image editor are you using? I hope it has colour management built in so you can convert the image to the right profile.

If so, what profile are you using? For a start, you can print via QTR-Grey-Matte.icc for matte papers. That's what I use and it works well for me. But I edit in QTR-Grey-Lab. (Sorry but I refuse to use US spelling!:) )

Good luck with it - I think you'll be very pleased with QTR once you get it working right.

Hi Richard, thanks for the response.

I am just using the Canon RAW converter. It has a basic but workable
BW conversion with it. Not sure what you mean by converting the image
to the right profile. It allows conversion to either TIFF or JPEG and
allows adobe or RGB colorspace. The only place I can see to select
profiles is in QTR.

In QTR I select UC-EEnhmatte-warm (assume UC is for epson K2 inks and
enhanced matt is the paper) as there does not seem to be a neutral
option.

Hope this makes sense.

You will need an image editor. The cheapest one I know of that is colour managed is Picture Window Pro but, being a Photoshop user, I'm rather ignorant of other programs.

Your monitor must also be calibrated so that the screen tones are accurate. Is it calibrated?

You choose two curves and choose a mix between the two that fits your needs - from cool to warm.

Feel free to email me off-list if you want help - I'm not the most tech savvy person here, but seem capable of getting good results with QTR, so that's a start.

Good luck,
Richard

C88+ and PS CS3

2007-05-27 by Mike Johnston

Hi,
Has anyone gotten good results yet with CS3?
I was using Paul's profiles and instructions with CS.
When I upgraded to CS3 it is obvious that something is
very different - all the profiles result in very light prints.

TIA

Mike, While I have been having some issues with the WHOLE CS3 Design
package, printing quality is NOT among them. In fact, I find the new
interface of CS3 to be very nice. I am working with XP Home SP2 and using a
4800 to output. First eliminate the possible clogged nozzle, then look into
what setting have a new or different default if any. I have printed to the
4800 using CS3, Lightroom and Qimage with a variety profiles and setting;
ABW, color, and Digital Negs without a problem due to color management.

I did check into the reported issue of CS3 not saving a print set up within
a session. I was able to reproduce that problem but only if I printed
through another app while CS3 was still open. i.e. Output through Q Image
with a print set up in CS3 and not sent to the printer yet. Otherwise, CS3
remembered the "set up to print" just fine.

Are these new lighter prints from both new files and legacy files?

Hi Eric,
Thanks for responding.
If I select a profile to print, the preview gets very light.
If I just print the photo with no profile, the preview and the
print match and are fine.

I assume I need to change something in Paul's processes with CS3.
Thanks

I found the problem - OFU.
I was not setting the rendering intent correctly.
Thanks
