Could someone please confirm that the minimum requirements for doing BO printing on an R220 printer would be a single, spongeless refillable cart plus Eboni and/or Photo Black ink plus chip resetter and syringe, needle and plugs? I am still confused by the array of kits but don't want to buy a complete refill kill if it is not necessary. Thanks in advance. D r e w

Hello Drew, The absolute minimum requirement for BO printing on the Epson R220 using matte paper is to use one Prefilled Spongeless MISPRO Matte Black Eboni Cart with Chip at $10.95 The next step up is to get one or more empty carts and chips for the K position, a 4oz bottle of Ebony black, a chip resetter, serynge and bottom fill adaptor. You can also get empty carts for the other inks position, fill them with MIS cleaning fluid. That's the setup I'm using with an Epson R260. Are non Epson carts still available from MIS? You'll have to check with them. Cheers, Andre

Drew, I agree totally with the respondent to your question... (can't see his name right now the way this page is set up). But that's exactly how I got started, with a 220 and the Eboni cartridge in the black position. Worked just great. My only concern now is as to the future availability of these carts in view of the Epson suit. But yes, his recommendation is an excellent way to start. It's simple and straightforward with very pleasing results. Have you seen Clayton Jones' website? I can post that link later if you'd like. Hope this helps, Paul

Another way to try it would be to use QTR and the BO profiles for the 220 but use the OEM Espon MK. I did tests while waiting for my MIS ink and it made some very good results. Much warmer than Eboni but gives yuo a feel of what you can achieve. If you like it with the OEM you'll love it with the Eboni. Thanks for the responses everyone. I heeded the warning about getting empty carts. MIS so no stock when you try to buy, so I ordered 6 refillable carts of Eboni and a 4oz bottle syringes etc. I have been playing with some scanned images in Linux using The GIMP and gutenprint which supports my R230, allows for greyscale/monochrome printing, and has a tool for print head alignment, nozzle checks etc etc. all for free! :) I have done some printing with the EOM ink. I must say that the result is quite dependant upon the contrast of the images being printed. A shot of a gleaming Harley in the sun turned out quite neutral but what I thought was a great portrait of two friends is rather dull with a green-ish hue by comparison. Looking forward to trying the Eboni! D r e w
