Off topic (sorry) any know any audio shareware developers?

2010-05-22 by Gareth Henderson

Hi ladies and gentleman,
Sorry to ask here but I've tried the obvious with no luck! :-(

I want to get software, for mac, that will record audio to mp3, from
either and internal mic or a USB audio device (I need to be able to
switch) but I need a few little added features , all of which I can
find in different mp3 recorders but not all together in the same one :-(
	I need:
	1) The ability to name the recording before I start
	2) a key command I can hit mid recording that will, in effect, end
that recording and immediately start a new, sequentially numbered one
	3) The ability once the recording is done to either send to something
to burn as audio or to ftp to a server
	4) Some kind of audio input monitoring, preferably with an overload
warning in case the record levels are clipping

In case you are wondering, my "other job" is as a singing teacher (I
have a few teachers that work for me too) and we record pupils lessons
for them to practice stuff at home. Currently we use tascam mp3
recorders, then transfer to macs to burn.
The ability to split the lessons on the fly would make it easy to make
different exercises, different tracks on a CD (we don't have time to
post edit) and the FTP thing is because I'm starting to hate CD's.
They all end up in land fills (trash) so I'd rather email the student
a download link from my server and let them stick it straight on their
iPod etc.

I've tried emailing various shareware developers who's products were
close but not quite right, to see if I can pay them to tweak a little
but none even bothered to email back :-((
Does anyone here know an online community or something where I could
post this and people could contact me if they can do it etc?
Many Thanks in advance for your help

Why don't you just insist on a few seconds of silence or cut the mic
inbetween singers. You will later be able to cut the audio easily in
fact you can use Strip Silence. Also have the singer speak their name
before they begin then you have it tied to the recording. You can also
do this yourself using another mic and they would never know.

Hi Ya,
It's down to speed and ease of use.

The lessons move fast and it's not each pupil I want to separate but
the exercises within that pupils lesson. We flow VERY quickly from one
exercise to the next as it's a process of building muscle memory and
we use one exercise to set up one response before moving fast to
another before the sensation is lost. I want to be able to hit a
command and know that I have a new track without pausing.
Additionally.... the other teachers are not sound engineers or Logic
users and I really don't need another task!
With an average 12-14 hour working day, I'm all about tools to make
life easier :-)

You couldn't just get two recorders and press stop with one hand and
start with the other?

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Off topic (sorry) any know any audio shareware developers?

2010-05-22 by Gareth Henderson

:-))
And what will I play the piano with? :-))
I think the solution I've come up with is the simplest by far,
although I do appreciate people trying to come up with alternatives.
I've been trying various solutions for years now (the tascams have
been the best by far) but I have reached the conclusion that a mp3
recorder with suitable controls is by far the best solution......just
need to find a suitable contact to get it done. I was just hoping with
the amount of audio professionals who frequent these lists, someone
here might have some ideas where to find the people who tinker with
these sort of things :-)
Thanks for chipping in though guys, I appreciate the willingness to
help,
	G

You can look on version tracker and check Audacity etc. But it may
very well be the situation that there is no solution. I often want
software which no one has designed, so I am writing my own to do some
midi that no one is making.

You may look into Apple Scripts to see if you can have it run macros to
do what you want. Logic used to allow you to pre name an audio file but
just one name and the key commands do not allow you to change that
(unlike Photoshop Actions which would allow you to change the name of
something in an automated way).

The other thing is old school piece of paper. Thats really the easiest.
Set the recorder to record, then look at your watch, and write down
"2.35 Jimmy Martin Exercise A" and of course write down when you start
recording and you can use Logic's time display to randomly go to any
location and process later.

Try Audio Hijack Pro from Rogue Amoeba

www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/

This program lets you record anything you can hear on your computer and then some.

Not sure what you've tried, but if it didn't include an actions
recorder or automation program like QuicKeys
(http://www.startly.com/products/quickeys/mac/4/), AppleScript or
maybe even Automator in conjunction with something like an audio
recorder like Audio Hijack or Wiretap, perhaps with an AU look-ahead
limiter in front, I suggest to explore that route. Audio Hijack allows
audio plugins and is Applescriptable, and you'll probably find it
easier (and cheaper) to find and hire an Applescripter, if that's what
you need, than a full-on app developer. Good luck; I'd be interested
to hear what finally works!

whats the difference in using Audio Hijack with start and stop, and
hitting stop and record in Logic? I don't see any advantage to AH.
