Help! I have an Epson R1800 and am on a PC with XP Pro. I just purchased QuadtoneRIP so am new to this game. I print on Epson Premium glossy paper, and am very satisfied with the B&W photos coming out of QTR, but these photos never seem to dry. They are easily damaged, scratched or smeared. Is this normal? Should I be using different paper? I was estatic to get the color I want but the fragility of the prints is scary. Is anyone else having this issue? thanks!

I also faced this issue when printing with QTR using Epson R1800 on Epson Traditional Paper (Exhibion Paper in US). Did not manage to have a solution yet, but I would try to use a covering spray (Hahnemuehle is having one) for the most valuable prints. I ususal frame them 24-48 hours after print to avoid scratching. Kind regards Marc --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "CherylS" <cherylstephenson@...> wrote:

Its not normal The usual cause of inks not drying (whatever software you use) is printing on the wrong side of the paper (or using an inappropriate paper for the ink and loading far too much ink onto the paper, but that doesn't sound likely if you're happy with the image apart from it not drying) On 02/02/2012 17:09, CherylS wrote: > > Help! Also, make sure that your QTR profile is using the photo black ink (PK) when using a glossy photo paper. I've found that matte black (MK) does create a very delicate image on glossy and lustre type photo papers, and quite prone to rubbing off. --Greg --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, Mike Finley <mike.finley@...> wrote:

Greg, You may be on to something but since I am so new to QTR I need additional help. Here is my setup: Media type: Photo paper Curve setup: Curve 1: UC_EEnhMatte-cool (85%) Curve 2: UC_EEnhMatte-sepia (15%) Curve 3: none The only curve choices are "matte" type, there is no photo or glossy choice. Maybe this is where my problem is??? Resolution: 1440x1440 super Speed: uni-directional I haven't used the Advanced Adjustments at all. Any additional hints are most welcome! Regards, Cheryl

Ok, I printed the ink pattern page - print using calibration mode on 8x10 photo paper. Ink 1 - Black is the fragile ink, but Ink 7 - Light Black is not. How do I get QTR to use only Ink 7? Do I have to pull out the matte black cartridge?? --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Cheryl Stephenson" <cherylstephenson@...> wrote:

The curves you are using are for matte paper and use the matte black, not the photo black. If you are going to use glossy paper you need different curves which use the photo black. The 1800 doesn't have a Light Black cartridge. Where are you getting Light Black?

The Light Black is the name off the QTR Ink pattern page, but I think it uses the photo black ink cartridge -- it looks really black at the right end and it's glossy and NOT fragile. The only curve selections that I have are "matte". Do I have to create my own? I hope not, I'm not sure I'm smart enough to do that...:( --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Hassan El-Zayyat" <halacam@...> wrote:

Are you shure to use the right option in the advaced tab? There are two choices, one for photo and one for matte. If you don't use the right option your paper does not dry! Inviato da iPad

Cheryl...it appears as if you've found the cause of your problem. The only thing you can do is make your own QTR Profile and Curve. On Windows, using the QTRgui makes this process pretty straightforward. There are some useful documents on the QuadtoneRIP download page that describe how to make a profile. Since you only have one black ink in your printer, you don't have to worry about ink partitioning (this is required on printers which have multiple "light black" inks). The only concepts you need to master are setting an ink limit (which you can estimate just by looking at calibration pattern printout), and linearization, which can be done with just a scanner, if you have one, though I have never done it that way. You can also use a densitometer or a spectrophotometer if you have (or have access to) one of those. There's plenty of people on this list who can help you with those, once you get to that point. Best of luck... --Greg --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "CherylS" <cherylstephenson@...> wrote:

Thanks Greg! I did get it! I created two simple curves that I can regulate with percentages for warmer or cooler whites. I think I'm all set for now! I don't have a desitometer or spectrophotometer, but I copied the curves delivered for my printer and just changed the ink that it draws from (photo black vs matte black). Very nice!
