Recognising QTR w/ a 3800 on an Ethernet network

2008-08-19 by nootka13

Hi,

Just joined your group in hopes of learning lots about using
QuadtoneRIP. However, first I need to get it up and running...

I installed QTR onto my MacBook Pro running Leopard. The computer
connects to the 3800 via wireless connection to an Airport Extreme
that is hardwired to an ethernet network. The 3800 has its own IP
address. I cannot seem to get the QTR interface window to show up when
I go to print. I can see QTR in the printer profile menue of the PRINT
dialogue box but it does not show up in the drop down list of Printer
choices.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks,

Michael.

QTR doesn't run over ethernet. It's USB only. I had the same problem.

I have just installed a set of MIS UT3D inks into my Epson
2200. I am looking for what curves to use for QUAD2200. Is the UT7 a
good place to start or are there curves somewhere that I can use to get
started.

There's a UT3D curve for the 2200 in the files section of the QuadtoneRIP
yahoo group pages here:

    http://tinyurl.com/6ectfa

It uses the UT7 printing model.

Is this a MAC OS issue? I can print just fine to my 3800 and 7880 over an
Ethernet connection from a PC.

If you are looking to share the printer, maybe setting up an el-cheapo PC as
a print server and drop your files into a QTR watched folder?

QTR will work just fine over ethernet -- wireless with the Airport or wired with
any router. The easiest way is using Bonjour which is built into Mac OS X and
the Epson Pro printers. See Tutorial.pdf at the end for the setup method.

I'm not sure if Tom is referring to my curves (QTR-2100-UT3D.zip, the
2200 is the US type number for the 2100). These are a bit older
curves using 1440 dpi and some split-tone curves. Later I made some
2880 dpi curves for some (marginally) improved smoothness. Also I
left out the split-tone curves as QTR has now a much more advanced
split-tone control itself. Let me know if you are interested in these
than I will post them as well.

Joost,

Thanks for the update on the curves...... If you don't mind it would be
great if you could post them.

I am really have a tough time getting the inks to work. After I loaded them
all I get is random nozzle checks. Its purely random. I run the head
clean then print and its totally random.

I have used up all the ink running tests and never go to the curves. I am
trying to decide if I order more ink or just pass on the UT3D....

Any comments or suggestions would be helpful.

It sounds like air. If the carts were not loaded with a good vacuum, they
could need priming. I use a modified MIS bottom fill adapter (see
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Modified-Bottom-Fill-Adapter.pdf -- used
with a syringe) to pull the air out of the outlet when something like this
happens. For this, I hold my finger over the air inlet (I assume that tab
has been removed) and have the plug into the reservoir removed. This should
not be needed with a commercially filled cart, but it does occasionally.

Joost,

I would be interested in any UT3D curves you've made for the
2100/2200... it's my primary B&W printer.

While I can make my own, I find it easiest to start with something
close.

Paul,

The UT3D that I am using were commercially filled cartidges. I am very
dispointed. A lot of money down the drain.

Wish I would have know that information up front.

I have replaced the older curves by my more recent ones. They are for
Epson Enhanced Matte / PhotoRag.

Good luck
