Installing Problems for Epson 2880

Installing Problems for Epson 2880

2008-11-26 by rabanito

Hallo :-)

I have installed QuadtoneRIP for Windows (XP). Things aren't really as
described in the user's guide but at first i didn't care, everything
went automatically and was OK.

Now: It doesn't look like it is installed properly.
On PS CS2 I expected to see a printer profile starting with "Q" but
nothing has changed.

Then I tried to print something directly w the GUI. I selected a .tif
file, my printer's name (2880) and different printing models, just
because nothing happened. The task stayed in the printer's queue as
"printing" but my printer expelled all sheets without doing any printing.

I'm surely missing something, probably elementary :-(, but i cannot
find what I am doing wrong.

Could anybody give me a hand?

Thanks

1.) Your tifs 8 bit tifs?

2.) How did you name the printer in QTR gui?

Re: Installing Problems for Epson 2880

Hallo Peter

1. Yes, 8bit uncompressed

2. Actually I didn't get any chance to name the printer. It appeared
already in the drop-down "printer name", where name and printer model
are. While installing (QTR_Setup_2.6.1.EXE) there were no other
instructions other than "close all other programs", and this I did :-)

The printer does get some command, but I understand too little of what
is happening. The sheet of paper comes out without being printed at
all and the task remains in the queue with the document as "being
printed". I have to delete it manually.

Printing for example with Photoshop, without QTR happens normally. I
mean the printer is OK.

(I got the version 2.6.1.0).

Thanks for you attention :-)

Hi Jorge!

Mmmmh...

I am using the same version but no problem with that.

Perhaps you uninstall qtr completly and you install it again?

Perhaps that might help?

Can you print the 21step.tif that came with qtr?

Re: Installing Problems for Epson 2880

2008-11-28 by rabanito

Hallo Peter

thank you for the hints. I got something else, perhaps this could help
to understand what's happening.

First I uninstalled and installed again. I even tried a former version
but the result is the same.

NOW:

- I used 21step.tif as you proposed.
- I fed enough sheets (A4)just to see what happens.
- The first sheet got printed a horizontal line (or wedge)about 1mm
thickness
- the next 3 or 4 sheets got nothing
- The 5th sheet got gibberish like ..@A@L@@DA@D@AADD@@DD@@@....etc

Looks like QTR and my printer are not speaking the same language, but
I am a novice in these matters... I presume there is something to be
done that I missed...

Thanks again

Jorge

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Installing Problems for Epson 2880

I've got a curious issue that maybe you folks can help me with.

I'm using a CIS I bought from Joe on an Epson 1400. I've been working through a number of issues and have them all solved except for one: I get some type of banding the first 1/2 inch of the print. It's odd because it goes away after the first half of an inch and then starts all over again for the next print. If it was continuous it would almost make more sense to me but every print has the first half inch of banding. The banding looks to me as no ink vs. the wrong ink.

Also, I have cycled through nozzel checks, head cleanings and print head alignments before each print, after each print all to no avail.

Anybody have any experience with this? I'm lost and don't know where to go next.

The 1400, as well as the 1800 and probably other 1.5 pl printers, seem to be
sensitive to paper feed issues. They are best when both rollers are
engaged. At a practical matter, you need wide top and bottom margins to
avoid banding.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Installing Problems for Epson 2880

2008-11-28 by Roy Harrington

The gibberish comes from selecting a printer model driver that is
incompatible with the
printer you are using. I assume when you said "2880 printer name" you have
a new Epson R2880 printer. If so, this printer is not yet supported
so you can't
have picked a matching printer driver. However as it turns out the R2880
printer is very compatible with the R2400 printer that it replaces. So you
might try use printer model QuadR2400. The profiles ought to be a
bit different
since there are new inks but with the blending you make find decent results.

Yes it worked! Thank you Roy and everybody who cared :-)

I had the problem in september and I picked the R2400 driver As Roy
recommend it. It works fine but I have a problem of microbanding on the
top and bottom (about one inch) of my prints with the UCMk3 inks. I hope
that the new driver set for the R2880 could solve that .

Jorge

It sounds like you are not using the correct Printer Model. My version of
QTRgui does not have a model for the R2880. If Peter had not said that the
printer is working for him (presumably with QTR) I would have guessed that
QTR doesn't support this model yet.

Since Peter says that it is working for him, make sure you are using the
same printer model he is. The Printer Model tells QTR what low level command
set to use for the printer.

Hi Tom!

Ahhhh, sometimes the solution is so near...

I didn´t read quite wll the title of the thread. And of course if
somthings comes out like '#+´??888' it must be something with the
printer driver...

Next time I will read the content with a little bit more attention!
