David How do I do a friend request? Tried to do one and it wasn't taking requests from bands? PHILIP

I get the same reply from David's myspace "David Vesel does not accept add requests from bands." bret --- On Sun, 5/25/08, kmg5443 <kmg5443@...> wrote:

As a result, many users have set their profiles to not take friend requests from bands. Since I have a band profile myself, it seems only right to accept requests from other bands. However, if someone spams my comment section on a regular basis then I remove them from my friend list. I appreciate the time and thoughtfulness of people when they leave me personal comments. What you can do, though, is to send a message to someone and ask them to request you as a friend. I have done this a few times when, after looking at someone's profile, I was reasonably sure that they would find my music of interest. In every case, the people I contacted sent me friend requests. People do enjoy personal notes and some evidence that one has taken the time to actually look at their profile. And that's about all I know about Myspace. -- Kevin

Same reply from spellbound myspace: Spellbound, a brief program of music for theremin does not accept add requests from bands. --- On Sun, 5/25/08, Bret <echoplex@...> wrote:

Good suggestion about sending the message, Kevin. I get requests for one of my myspace band pages, where it is clear they did not look at, listen to, or know anything about the band (when their lyrical content and band attitude is clearly contrary to mine). bret --- On Sun, 5/25/08, kkissinger@... <kkissinger@...> wrote:

The only times I've turned down friend requests (or removed a friend from the list) is: . the account had racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful content . the account contained links to pornographic sites . the account spammed me on a CONSISTANT basis (I don't mind if someone posts an occasional announcement) I can handle an occasional cuss-word. Of course, I can't check EVERYTHING and there could be something in someone's blogs that I am unaware of. I go by the profile page. I am bothered by the "top friends" feature because many people have inspired or touched me in some way and should be in my top friends list -- I need more than 24 slots. And, a third of the slots are occupied by family and few of my daughter's friends. I would prefer to set it up so it rotates through my friends list somehow (maybe there is some way to do that... I haven't figured it out, though). I don't have nearly enough time to write people that I'd like to write. Not enough time to keep up with Myspace. Such is life. -- Kevin

This is the case where I have refused myspace friends: "the account had racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful content" I have no problem hearing George Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words", but I will not associate with the above. I'm still trying to figure out the ins and outs of myspace. I have found some interesting music and videos there, that I would not likely have experienced otherwise. bret

It's at the top of the "edit your top friends" page. > Despite the Service Agreement for Myspace, many bands spam Myspace -- > in fact, there is software that circumvents Myspace's policies to > allow bands to spam thousands of users a day (yes, there are ways to > get around the 300 friend-request per day limit). I resemble that remark. :-) Well, a little bit. I'm currently working the Without Touch site (for the theremin fest in Lippstadt. Did I mention there was a theremin fest in Lippstadt?) but with a self-imposed limit of 200 requests per day - quite enough to keep me busy, especially as I'm doing CAPTCHAs by hand - my concession to the service agreement - and focussing on the target audience as closely as my software permits - i.e. only European friends of well known thereminists (mostly), followed by a single short text-only comment when they accept the add. 3000 friends so far, and no complaints from anyone I added. (And a fair number of thank-yous to boot.) I'm aware that "ethical spamming" is an oxymoron, but I justify it in my own mind by observing that the festival organiser is doing the dance of joy at the results, by euphemising it as "promoting" or "spreading the word" and by noting that about ten comments equals one friend request - often from excited thereminists who have not yet discovered the online theremin community. And that everyone who visits http://myspace.com/withouttouch gets exposed to a lovely bit of Clara. Hey-ho. > I try to be generous about friend requests. I don't want to shop at Macy's or find out who fancies me, and I don't want people who visit my profile to be tempted. Also I'm especially wary of requests from attractive young women in their bikinis because, hey, I DON'T "wanna get laid tonite" or meet their "hottie" friends, because, as the song says, (*) all I'd get is bitter and a nasty little rash. In reality, you are performing a service to the theremin community by sharing information about the Lippstadt event. I should have been clearer in my comment. Sometimes I get friend requests from dj's or bands that have no relation to my music or interests in what appears to be indiscriminate promotion. I tend to ignore such requests. As far as Lippstadt -- I wish I could be there -- just too costly for me to travel from the middle of the USA. -- Kevin

Let me tell you, Kevin, I had to think about your friend request for LONG LONG time....do I really want to do this?? Will this impact me positively, or will the fabric of the Universe be rent beyond repair.....1.243 seconds later I said, "Sure, why not!!!!", and hit YES. Notice on my profile that my daughter Sarah is No. 1. If I move her, there will be H**L to pay. 15 going on 34, and those hormones can really make life unpleasant!! PHILIP

Philip, Send me a message on MySpace from the account you want a friend request for and I'll send you one back. Unfortunately, I had to disable band friend requests because I was being pelted with drive-by requests from every crappy little emo band and wannabe rapper in the universe. As long as someone is willing to talk to me interactively, I'll do a friend request with them. But it's one of the negatives of doing business on MySpace. ----- DAVID VESEL -- synthetic music for humans ----- Spellbound, a brief program of music for theremin Sunday 10PM-12AM http://spellbound.purplenote.com kmg5443 wrote:

Kevin, You can now have up to 40 "top friends". I agree, though, that some sort of rotation would be very nice. ----- DAVID VESEL -- synthetic music for humans ----- Spellbound, a brief program of music for theremin Sunday 10PM-12AM http://spellbound.purplenote.com kkissinger@... wrote:
