BCR2000 receiving, not sending...

2008-04-17 by Martin Klang

Hi there,

my BCR2000 seems to have developed a problem. When I plug it in, by
USB, everything generally works fine for a few seconds.
Then the unit no longer sends any output when I turn the knobs /
press buttons. If I have it connected to e.g. Ableton Live, it still
receives feedback as usual as can be seem on the leds updating.

I've tried replacing the cord, I've tried different host apps and
MIDI settings, different USB routing. I thought it was down to my
old, dying powerbook loosing its hearing, I mean USB connections.
But no, I've got a brand new macbook and it does the same thing.

So I guess the USB connection is pretty much skrewed, somehow. Bad
soldering? I might just have to get ye olde iron out. My question is:
has anyone else seen this behaviour? Did you find a solution?

I'll try plugging it through the MIDI ports on my axiom to see if
that works.

cheers,

/m

I bought a BCF a little while ago and it worked fine on the MIDI ports.
I went to use it through the USB and it would send but not receive.

The store exchanged it (the serials were exactly 1000 different so I
suspect that you ignore the last three characters and so they are
sequential). You guessed it. The same problem. The guy at the store
rang to say he had managed to get my original unit working but on a
Mac. So USB on the BCF is OK

So, the driver? Chris a Behringer says that thousands are working fine
with that driver.

I have tried it on my 2 PCs and neither work, so it must be something
I have set up.
The only common thing about the 2 PCs is both have a MidiSport adapter

I am beginning to wonder about some common problem as so many people
are having trouble. We have had quite a few failures in the last few
months mentioned in the group.

I hope to try the BCF out at a friends place. He has been using his
BCF for years.

The BCR is going really well. So who knows what is wrong .

Sorry I can't help but I do sympathize.

Royce

I've had the same problem from the moment I bought my BCR 12 months ago:

For about 4 months I thought it was due to a messed-up driver
installation under Windows: the standard "USB Audio" versus the
Behringer-supplied 1.1.1.0, 1.1.1.1 and 1.2.1.3; you know the type of
problem...

What often happened was this:
I started my own BC Manager (which I was developing), then the BCR
would stop sending data after about a minute. Then I exited BC
Manager, and when I restarted it, BC Manager immediately reported
"Undefined external error".
(The source of this error message was the Windows MMSystem MIDI layer,
responding to BC Manager's attempt at connecting to the BCR's
USB-based MIDI device; I've noticed that other software (Sonar, Reason
etc.) may or may not produce similar messages.)
What I then often did was reinstall the USB driver (I can't remember
if this procedure involved leaving the BCR switched on, or re-powering
it): then the USB connection would often work correctly for the rest
of the day.
So you can understand why all those months I thought that the USB
driver was the cause.

However, 8 months ago I bought a BCF, and over the next few months I
slowly realized that the BCF NEVER had this problem. Finally I spent
at least a full week trying everything I could (roughly the same list
you've mentioned). In the end I came to the same conclusion as you:
the USB controller on my BCR is defective, and has been since I bought it.

So the reverse of Martin's and my problem on the BCR ?!
Very intriguing.

I'm planning on going back to the shop with my BCR (I still have about
11 monhts of warranty), once I can find the time to do so, hopefully
within about a month. I'll let you all know what comes out of this.

Mark.

Uh oh, now my BCR has started doing the same thing over MIDI cables.
After a little while of working fine, it stops sending messages, but
still receives feedback.
I'm going to try resetting the firmware or something. I wish I hadn't
bought it online...

I know this is probably an obvious question, but in my experience the
simplest solution is often the last one to be tried.

...have you checked to make sure that you're in the correct operating
mode? (hold Edit and press store) as some of the operating modes
aren't as straightforward as one would expect them to be.
