Help

2001-12-29 by Music man

I found this group on the Internet and I am hoping that someone can provide
me with some help.
I have just taken delivery of a beautiful new disklavier grand (DC3A) and
it appear to have a problem. I have sent email to Yamaha but they appear to
be closed until the New Year and as I am sure you can understand I am very
anxious to try my new baby.
Problem is this....
1. Error reading on startup stating "Sensor LED on Error"
2. Does not seem to record....since it will not playback
3. When I activate the Silent mode....I can hear the piano sound but it is
very faint
I have checked the volume controls and the plugs and they all seem to be fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Holidays to All

This is not a good situation!

Although Yamaha's corporate office provides world-class service, I think that
your best, first-line approach is to contact your dealer. Assuming that your
dealer is an authorized Disklavier dealer, he/she should have a qualified
technician on staff or under contract to take care of your problem. In my
humble opinion, the dealer should have calibrated the instrument when it was
delivered and made sure that everything works correctly.

So, I suggest calling the dealer. He should not charge you for the house call.

That's outrageous! You did not mention where you bought the instrument,
although I would assume from an authorized Yamaha dealer. Yamaha expects the
dealer to do a complete "set-up" in your home. That is often performed by an
independent RPT who has had Disklavier training. It's certainly critical to
consumer satisfaction that that the set-up be done at the time of delivery.
There never should have been a problem; however, the dealer should be the first
one to respond without your having to contact Yamaha. It sounds as though
Yamaha needs to have some words with this dealer.

In the meantime, the person to contact at Yamaha is Mark Wisner at 800 854 1569
EXT 22. You will need to tell him the serial number of your Disklavier. Mark
is the service manager and has a sterling record for troubleshooting on the
phone. Unfortunately, you may not be able to reach him until after the New Year
holiday.

I've seen the "Sensor LED on Error" on my Mark II from time to time. It seems
to be benign. Simply powering off, then on has cleared any misbehavior that
I've ever experienced with mine.

Good luck!

Something else occurred to me that you might wish to check: There is a small
ribbon cable connector coming from the treble side of the keyboard action that
should be engaged. To get to it, you need only remove the fall board by
grasping the open edge and lifting it straight up. (When the action is removed
and re-inserted, reconnecting that plug is sometimes overlooked.)

Actually, there are two ribbon cables on the keyboard that should be
engaged--the sensor relay connector on the treble side and the hammer sensor
cable on the base side.

Re: [disklavier] Help

2001-12-30 by Carol Beigel

The Silent Mode, when activated, can only be heard through headphones. The
volume control knob next to the Silent mode switch, however, needs to be
turned up to hear the speakers when the piano is playing a floppy disk or CD
that has ensemble sounds.

Underneath the piano, next to the pedal lyre, is a large, round connector
with lots of pins. It goes from the pedal lyre to the underside of the
piano. GENTLY see if that round connector turns. It should NOT! Only the
collar that tightens the connector should turn. If the connector itself
turns, you have a problem. What can happen is that the piano movers try to
turn the connector. It should be put in place, without turning, and only
the collar should be tightened gently by hand.

The other tricky connector that is sometimes overlooked is on the UNDERSIDE
of the keyframe. A piano technician would remove the control box to the
DKV, remove the fallboard, remove the keyblocks on either side of the piano
action and pull the piano action out about 3/4 of the way out of the piano.
Then lift up the front of the action in order to see the underside of the
piano keys. Although that connector may look connnected, I have found on
several occasions that it is at a slight angle. Hopefully this is the
problem.

The simple solution already mentioned, is to remove the fallboard by lifting
it straight up, and check that the gray cable on the right is connected to
the side of the piano. HOwever, when this situation occurs the error reads
Sensor Not Connected.

I am assuming you bought this piano from your local Yamaha dealer so a
technician should be available. Call them.

Help

Hi to everybody
I live in Chihuahua city in Mexico and I own a Disklavier Mark II XG series with a DKC 500RXG control unit it´s a big problem here to get de PianoSoft disks in Mexico and when I read the next information from the group:
PianoDisc recordings should work on a Disklavier. However, those files are
in MIDI 0 format. That means that if you have an older DKV model that only
plays Eseq format, you need to convert these PianoDisc files first.

Carol Beigel
I buy 6 disks from Pianodisc that is the only one I know here in Mexico, but now my problem is that when I tray to play those disks in my Disklavier the control unit show me UNFORMATTED DISK .
What can I do? it´s any way to fix this?

Hi

All Pianosoft disks are made by Yamaha and will work, and are in ESEQ
format only.
As far as I know PianoDisk is buy someone else. If, as you say, you
can only get PianoDisk then there is software on the net that will
convert from Midi format 0 to 1 or 1 to 0.
