Does anyone have surefire way to make a wireless internet connection for my Mark IV?
2008-10-22 by Mike Moore
The only surefire way I know is the one I used: I run an ethernet cord into the MarkIV from the wireless Airport Express module that I plugged in nearby. That's obviously only a quasi-wireless connection. Others in this forum may have found some sort of wireless device that plugs in directly to the Mark IV's ethernet or other ports. I have my Mark IV connected wireless via a Linksys wireless bridge, Model WET54G. It plugs directly into the Mark IV's ethernet port to make it wireless. The bridge connects (wirelessly) to a Linksys access point then via CAT5 wire to a NetGear switch. I have not had any problems with it since I've installed it. I also use airport express wireless and works great. I am a Mac user. NO problems. Works fantastic. Joan --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Moore" <mmoore@...> wrote:

I am a Mac OSX user. I just plugged in my Airport Express (which I use to extend the range of my WIFI network from another unit that acts as a base and connects directly to the DSL modem) into an available power outlet on the power supply of the Disklavier and then ran an LAN cable (which I got from Radio Shack) directly into the I/O LAN port on the computer. No problems whatsoever. Worked right away. The disklavier shows up as an extra computer or server on your network. Then it was a simple matter to log into the yamaha disklavier radio website, register there, and about 5 minutes later I was downloading music. I do wish, however, that we had alternative "radio" internet sources for the disklavier -- sort of like podcasts -- so we could hear a wider range of music. Back in August, I posted a method for creating your own wireless bridge for your Mark IV with a standard Linksys routers; http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/disklavier/message/7290 Mine still works like a charm. SJ --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, "dcgreenhfx" <dcgreenhfx@...> wrote:

David, If you look at some of my comments on this forum from about June 2008, I had lots of problems with precisely that model of Linksys device. Even though I could use the device to wirelessly connect a PC with the Internet, it wouldn't reliably connect the DKVM4 with the Internet. I switched to a Linksys WGA54G, and it worked immediately. I have had no problems since. Other people have had no issues with the WET54G, but I personally wasted soooo much time trying to figure out why I was having trouble that I almost want to kick myself for having waited so long to try the WGA54G. Let us know what happens. Your DKVM4 definitely can wirelessly connect flawlessly with the Internet. I'm having issues trying to connect to the internet, too. I'm using a Belken F507330 wireless ethernet adapter. My DKV says it's connected, but there is no IP address (it is set to get one automatically)...help! --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Alan Chapman <dj_9225@...> wrote: > > david > > can you hook a portable computer to your wireless bridge and see if the computer connects to the internet? If it doesn't then you need to work on the wireless before worrying about the DKV. If the computer does connect to the internet through the wireless setup you have - then you will need to check some things on the DKV. It is at least a starting place. > > Alan > > > > ________________________________ > From: dcgreen2008 <dcgreen2008@...> > To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Wednesday, November 19, 2008 7:43:16 PM > Subject: [disklavier] Re: Internet solution for connecting Disklavier Mark IV > > > So I have ordered online the linksys wireless-g bridge WET54g version > 3. I would try that in order to determine if the wireless ethernet adapter is configured correctly. When you do so, be sure and turn of the Wi-Fi feature on the computer that you are using for the test in order to make sure that you are, in fact, getting an Internet connection using the wireless ethernet adapter.
