Emax 1 disks

Emax 1 disks

2007-01-29 by booboopus

Hi there,

Is anyone out there able to send me a boot disk for the Emax 1. I will
pay you for your troubles...

The unit was given to me without disks, so I tried making some by
booting in DOS 6.22 and using EMX to write to a DS/DD disk with version
3.2 of the OS. Unfortunately, it fails to load , going into an infinite
loop during startup. I can hear four clicks from the floppy, then the
front panel lights flash, repeat....

Perhaps the floppy is dead? Any help appreciated.

If I were you, I would stop messing around with it
until I get my hands on a disk. All you need is one
disk to get started. Your floppy is probably 100%
okay. If you are uncertain about what you are doing,
you could damage that floppy drive and they could be
expensive whenever you find one.

I could send you one but unfortunately I am going on a
business trip early tomorrow morning for a few days
and I just received word that I have lost family
member back in Detroit, so I am in high gear trying to
prepare myself. If you don't have one in a couple of
weeks from now, hit me up again.

This definitely works....
http://users.skynet.be/emxp/ (use the image in the files section here)

make sure you have a double density disk

if it still doesnt work,,,check the jumper settings on your floppy
drive as this is most likely your issue (a post on these settings
have bee posted recently enough)

Re: Emax 1 disks

I think this kind of problem has been reported already many times on
this board...
Many floppy drives in EMAX-I and (only) some floppy drives in EMAX-II
have a different calibration than the ones in PC's. EMX does not take
this difference into account while formatting disks.
When I created EMXP (EMX for WinXP) I discussed this problem with the
guy who develops OmniFlop, and he tweaked his driver and explained it
to me in order to support the "most common" type of floppy drives in
EMAX samplers.

So maybe you can try EMXP (with either OmniFlop driver or the driver
delivered with EMXP - the tweak is supported in both cases). You'll
need a WinXP PC with internal floppy drive for that.

It's still not 100% guaranteed however that it will work, but you'll
have a lot more chance than with EMX for DOS.
Another fallback could be CopyQM, which also gives better results
than EMX. For CopyQM you'll need a DOS PC.

All programs and files can be found in the files section.

Sorry for your loss and thanks for your offer. I may need it if the
other methods suggested do not work.

Thanks for the pointers! I just tried EMXP and ended up with the same
results as with EMX. I will give CopyQM a shot next....
