I am about to move my entire exs library of samples from my 60 gig firewire drive to a larger one. Any pitfalls to look out for or weirdness that I should expect? Like maybe needing to sit while the exs looks for the new locations? Thanks. i'm busy transferring too, to a new powerbook, and the fact that exs takes a while to located a previously unlocated instruments samples is a bit daunting. i anticipate a day spent clicking through every patch so the exs knows it's way thereafter. i'm hoping some kind soul is going to tell us "as long as all the instruments and samples are transferred *as is* then everything will be fine." any takers? andy.

As soon as you move samples to another drive, you _will_ force the EXS to go looking for them. See the FAQ, 18.10, for a way to avoid spending hours behind the computer to fix this. The FAQ address is in the footer of this msg. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

The FAQ address is in the footer of this msg. excellent news, hendrik. i was meaning to congratulate on the faq already.... *clap, clap* i've had it for days but have been too busy to poke my nose into it, now i have a reason to ;) cheers.

I just moved my sample library to a bigger drive, did the scan overnight. So far seems to work fine (i.e. No long time looking for the samples). If PM does not find the samples do the find unresolved file references¹. Unfortunately only LAMP 6.0 (maybe a reason to upgrade ;-)) Cheers, Gilles [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

It¹s actually quite thought through (although far from perfect): When you do the find unresolved files references¹ it goes through the data. When it finds multiple matches a dialog comes up giving you the several files in question. The PM tells you what the original location (the whole path!!!) & name of the sample was (& this was for samples which I copied to another drive while using version 5, so no PM then!!). If you just copied the whole folder, the path will be more or less the same apart from the drive name, etc, which at least in my case made it quite easy. Only problem: if you do it like I did for a 40GB sample library & there are quite a few matches (I found out I had the Siedlaczek 3 times, Miroslav 2 times, EXS factory sounds 5 times on the computer... Probably happened while reinstalling or in the heat of a session...) you might do a mistake & you can¹t really undo that. As you pointed out (thanks BTW ;-)) you have to open the sample instrumentin question (luckily remembered which ones I messed up) & change it manually. IMO, this is way better then going through 11000 EXS programs, waiting for the EXS to find the right sample, etc Cheers, Gilles [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Ah, that sounds similar -- thx. >IMO, this is way better then going through 11000 EXS programs, waiting for >the EXS to find the right sample, etc I don't quite see the difference with the "next instrument"-command-in-a-loop method, to be honest. Except that maybe the PM is faster, but if you let Logic loop overnight that's no issue. Would you mind writing an _exact_ description of how to do this in LA6? I can then add it to the proper FAQ-entry... If you don't have the time, than that's okay, but I thought I might as well ask... -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

I¹ll do it again, so that I don¹t give you wrong information (although just with a small portion of samples ;-)) Cheers, Gilles P.S: could be a week or so, I¹ll have to do it during the free time [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

hi guys, > Just let the Project Manager Run overnight & you should be fine. I just > moved my sample library to a bigger drive, did the scan overnight. What kind of software is the project manager? I seem to spend a lot of time loading instruments into EXS24 that shouldn't take a long time. thx, simon

Choose find unresolved files of selected items¹ under the function menu. Once this is done, the Instruments should have black triangles in front of them & should load fast. I actually send Hendrik a small document containing this for the FAQ.
