Wiggler + Crossworks works, ocdremote not?

Wiggler + Crossworks works, ocdremote not?

2004-12-06 by theeuwke

Hi everybody again.

I'v finally got the Ashling LPC2106 AND my custom 2292 board working.
But... Only in Crosworks from Rowley??? (And it runs perfectly). I
configured the LPC2106 according to the Omilex schematics, and the
LPC2292 to the Omilex 2129 schematics. That seems to work, but if I
try the ocdremote I get most of the time "Cable disconnect" and some
times "Not in background". I use Leon's schematic, but use a 74HC244N
and a BC547C. I tried all speeds.

I am suspecting the Transistor, but it's just an ordinary NPN
transistor. On the scope I see the nRST pulled up and data on TDI,
but there is no data getting out. Connecting TRST instead is not the
solution.

Weird! I actually used a 74HC244 for my 'Wiggler alike', and the BC547C
should work OK. Does it work with Crossworks at maximum speed?

I tested it til speedsetting (divider) 6

Cut of the reset signal and try again.
At my design it was a problem with the reset. OCDlibremote should work
also with cut of nrst.

So then there is absolutelly no reset connection?

Ok, i've cut the reset now. Crossworks is working even on speed
divider 0 (maximum speed). With the ocdremote, data comes out of the
processor now to, but still the "Not in background" error. In the ocd
remote program for windows, it says "cannot get in debug mode". I've
made a picture with the scope of ocdremote+wiggler+lpc2292:

Make sure that there is no programm running in the flash. I also
sometimes have problems using ocdlibremote when there is a working
programm in flash that uses interupts. So make sure you are in
bootloader mode (holding down P0.14 while reset or simply erase the
flash and then reset).

- do a reset (into bootlaoder mode)
- start ocdlibremote
- start insight/gdb
- load programm
- download programm (remote/tcp, localhost, 8888)
- then use "continue" to run the programm, don't use run (that cut's
of the ocdlib connection at my computer)

I wrote a little batch that restarts ocdlibremote if it is shut down
by connection loss.

:LOOP
ocdlibremote -c ARM7 -d WIGGLER -a 1 -s 1
GOTO LOOP

Thanks for your reply, but, no luck. And the loop script won't work
in cygwin ;-).

I have no ideas left.

If you are using the gnuarm package from www.gnuarm.com, then you
don't have to run the tools, even ocdlibremote, from cygwin. You only
need to have cygwin.dll in your path. Then you can use normal
dos-batch-files to call the gnu tools and the ocdlibremote(must also
be in the path). I think thats makes the whole cygwin thing a bit
easyer to use under windows and integrate them into IDE's.

Today, I almost was happy when my order came in; A Olimex LPC2129
evaluation board with 2 wigglers. But still not working! (Same
problem, se previous posts) I also installed a new version of
ocdremote, I am now able to to select more cpu's, but when I try to
connect, I get an error, I think there is a bug in the software.
Somebody tried already?

hi,
you may ask for help Richard Barry @ freerts.org he uses our JTAG and
LPC-P2106 with gnuarm and on his web is written how to config the
software

Hi Tsvetan,

That freertos.org, he's got our uIP port to the ARM running as a task
under FreeRTOS very quickly, just a day or so to make it all work.

I updated to ocdremote v2.08 and started getting lots of Cable
Disconnected errors, and also internal error 43.
I reported the problem to Macraigor, they told me the wiggler drivers
have been given a major update, because I am using a wiggler
compatible that was all the info help I received.

v2.07 also suffers similar problems as v2.08.
Moving back to v2.06 and everything is fine again.

Might Help

Interesting...I've been having problems with v2.08 too. I have never
used v2.06, but I'd love to try it. I can't find it to download on
the macgraigor site. Where did you find it? Can you post it to the
group, or email me off list regarding it?

Thanks,

I'd like to try it too. I simply haven't got the current Macgraigor site
version to do anything. It's probably something else, but worth trying
the older version !

I too have had problems with the latest version of ocdremote and wigglers.

hwsupport-2.05.exe works for me, which you can get from my ftp site:

ftp://stimpy.nuked.org/rod/arm/macraigor/

In case you are interested I have quite a bit of ARM related files, and a
build script available for download on another page:

What about the windows OCD Commander program? I've had no end of trouble
trying to get my Olimex JTAG working (on two machines), and I've not had
any luck. What versions are people using?

Makes me wonder if the Olimex JTAG cable is just a little bit different...

There is definitely a problem with the latest OCD Commander utility;
I can't get it to work with my JTAG interface, whereas the old
version was fine. The new software *does* work with my genuine
Wiggler, so it looks as though it is testing something. I can't think
what it is, though.

The Rowley debugger still works with my interface, of course, and
should be OK with the Olimex one.

Hi Leon

What is the difference between Olimex JTAG and a "genuine" JTAG Wiggler.?

I know that inside Olimex there is 244 buffers, what is inside a
"genuine" Wiggler ?

best regards

John

The Macraigor Wiggler has two 74AC244s and a couple of transistors. The
actual circuit might be different from the Olimex one, of course. I only use
one 74HC244 on my interface, and one transistor.

Arie de Munck sent me an interface schematic that had pins 8 and 15
linked on the DB25 connector. I tried that on my interface and it now
works OK with the current OCD Commander software.

I've modified my schematic and PCB design and I'll be updating my web
page and my files in the Group's Files area.

Even with this mod, my Olimex is still acting strangely under the recent
OCD Commander. Anything other than speed 8 gives me the dreaded:
"Error Response from INITIALIZE: 0x03 initialize_target : cable
disconnected (10 : 03)".

Speed 8 appears to work, but it is horribly slow. Some of the older
versions seem to work better, in that I can do the initial connect at speed
8, then switch to speed 2 or 3. But even then, I'm seeing a lot of unknown
opcodes during single stepping, and stepping through a BL doesn't show the
link register updating.

I think I'll try your circuit next. This Olimex jtag
'almost-a-wiggler-clone' cable is terribly frustrating.

Answering my own gripe: OCD Commander comes up assuming big endian. Oops.
Sorry for the noise there.

My interface works OK at the max. speed setting (1). My real Wiggler will
only manage 3!

I've updated the files in jtag.zip.

Do you have the schematic in .pdf format? The text in the .gif schematic
file is really hard to read.

I've added a PDF version to jtag.zip.

Hello,

I had a similiar problem, I found that the Macraigor Wiggler
(ocdremote) used within IAR Embedded Workbench worked. But the recent
version of ocdremote from www.Macraigor.com, version 2.41 did not
work. The reasons for this can be found on this forum page:
http://sysadminforum.com/showthread.php?
s=8b64fe3da5c435f497ad868f34952f99&t=238739&page=2&pp=10

If the link does not work, look in - comp.sys.arm for
'Macraigor OCD Commander and Wiggler clones' (on first page at the
moment) from the main sysadminforum page.

Hope this helps.
FD.
