I'm hoping I can get some help here.... My 2000 is now running 4.3b with a brand new drive...but it STILL gives me "nd" (no disk) whenever I try to do anything with the drive. I can't read factory disks on power up, nor can I load single sounds, and I can't format a disk. I get the same "nd" every time. I've flipped the drive cable, and now have two drives (original and WineCountry new one) and they perform the same. Rob

you're not in canada are you , to bad you r not in my city so i could take a look at it , i would reattach/solder the scsi leed to the cidsut board , and re "crimp" where the leed goes into the drive repair both ends of the leed its self thats a starting point sounds like the trouble wasn't the drive at all charles ----- Original Message -----

have you got the jumpers in the right place on the drives? I hope when you say "flipped" you don't mean "reversed".... I killed a floppy drive doing this by accident. the floppy disc driver chip is fairly standard, I think, but would be a tricky job to replace.... I have the boards from my 2000, which had a dead keyboard controller (which WC couldn't help with- it was a custom IC)... let me see if I can locate anything useful on them for you, & let me know how you get on. I didn't change the jumper on the factory drive that selects DS0, and the replacement from WC doesn't have any. The power cord has to flip between the stock and the replacement (and the replacement instructions indicate so). I have flipped back and forth the data cable, since there is no real keying to it. I hope it's not the driver chip. I can replace it, but it should would be easier not to. The drive spins up on power up, but doesn't seem to seek when I try to move data to/from it. ive experienced this same problem the original 2002 drive died, so i picked up a suitable replacement on ebay making sure the jumpers were correctly aligned same thing, ...drive powers up, disc takes a spin and then 'nd' since that drive only cost me $10, i decided id try buying another suitable replacement off ebay (different model than the first), that i also jumper configured correctly and got the the same result ...'nd' i tried switching things around a bit but sort of gave up on it at that point im still over $40 ahead of the $70 whine country wanted for a new one, so i figured eventually ill try getting another one off ebay sometime and repeat the process, but i really couldnt find a reason why those drives werent functioning this discussion has rekindled my interest in getting my 2002 going again i put a ton of work into sampling back in the late 80's/early 90's and id like to revisit some of those sounds ...heres hoping help arrives! -yeller --- On Thu, 10/8/09, Rob Miller <dpc318@...> wrote:

Well, I might be making some progress. There's a "buffer" chip, a 7406, that's identified as U201. It sits between the floppy controller and the header P202. On two of the hex inverted pairs they don't seem to be inverting the signals. Namely, pins 1/2 and 3/4. Does anyone have a clean copy of the schematics? I'm having a hard time ready what each of the pins do on the online version. This is on what appears to be drawing SD 2000-2. This is a very inexpensive part, so I might just pull it, socket a new one, and try. Rob Henrik wrote:

Well, I replaced the 7406 buffer chip between the floppy controller and the drive, and while the individual logic is better on the chip, it did not resolve my "nD" issue. My drive seems to be spinning all the time while a disk is in it, with the red LED on. Is this normal? I don't remember. Rob Henrik wrote:

Hi! I just joined this group. Today I got an used 2002 and unfortunately I have problems with the floppy drive. But istead of getting the "nD" message I get again and again a bliking "Lh" message. If I i.e. choose to format a floppy I put into the drive, the drive gives a spin, the red light lights for 1 second or so and I get that "Lh" on the screen. Any idea? Thank you! Hi all! It's me again! I found some info regarding my problem searching the forum: "Lh" means "locked head" so my floppy drive is probably gone. What a great forum! Hello! After unmounting, cleaning and remounting the drive various times unsuccessfully I decided to buy a new drive at winecountry. It's not cheap but it fixed the problem. Now everything works. I have 2 Prophets (1x Prophet 2002 256K with the new drive and 1x Prophet 2002 plus 512K with the original drive). If I format a floppy with the first, the second says iF (incorrect format?) when I try to save something on it. But if I save a disk in the first, the second can read it without problems. Then I noticed that there are some disks that are read with no problems with the new drive but not with the old one. And other disks behave the opposite! Mysteries... A little OT question: did Sequential offer an own sample library? I only have 2 original Sequential disks (1986, for the 512K version: #875-01EX REV A and #875-02EX REV A, unfortunately they don't work!). Are these the only disks ever made by Sequential? Hello!
After unmounting, cleaning and remounting the drive various times unsuccessfully I decided to buy a new drive at winecountry. It's not cheap but it fixed the problem. Now everything works.
I have 2 Prophets (1x Prophet 2002 256K with the new drive and 1x Prophet 2002 plus 512K with the original drive). If I format a floppy with the first, the second says iF (incorrect format?) when I try to save something on it. But if I save a disk in the first, the second can read it without problems. Then I noticed that there are some disks that are read with no problems with the new drive but not with the old one. And other disks behave the opposite! Mysteries...
A little OT question: did Sequential offer an own sample library? I only have 2 original Sequential disks (1986, for the 512K version: #875-01EX REV A and #875-02EX REV A, unfortunately they don't work!). Are these the only disks ever made by Sequential?

Manual 3-17: Upward disk compatibility Single sided disks that have been formatted with rev 2.1 software will load on all rev 3.0 units, whether they have been expanded or not. Loading and saving a rev 2.1 disk on a rev 3.0 unit does not change that disk into a rev 3.0 disk. (this is what enables rev 3.0 to be used as a retro fit on an expanded unit) Downward disk compatibility As mentioned above you can load a rev 3.0 disk into a rev 2.1 unit if its A or B side are 128 blocks or less, because in this case only the first side of the disk is used. If a rev 3.0 disk using more than 128 blocks is loaded into a 3.0 system with standard memory, any sample stored on the second disk side will not be loaded, but no error will be indicated. NOTE: Loading the rev 3.0 disk into a rev 2.1 unit will produce an "if" (incorrect format) error. Simply override this error by pressing execute. HOWEVER results are not guaranteed with a two-sided disk if it has data on both sides, or when loading one sample. To prevent the "if" error from occurring each time you load a rev 3.0 disk on a 2.1 system, save the data to a disk which has been formatted on a 2.1 system. You cannot save or compare from a rev 2.1 unit to a rev 3.0 disk. Attempting to do so will cause an "if" error, which cannot be ignored. This is done to prevent destroying important system data which is on a rev 3.0 disk. Determine disk type: If the rev of the disk is unknown, try loading it into a rev 2.1 unit. If an "if" appears, than the disk is a rev 3.0. Otherwise its 2.1. If you have a 4.3 or whatever I guess the same still applies?
