Are the cartridges down far enough to trip the little switch? Try
pulling them up and reseating them. That's almost surely what the
problem is.

Jerry,

I can't push the color cart in as far as the black one -- when I try to push
it down farther, it flexes the whole cart hold (and, I presume, the heads).
I'm using the Modified Cartridge Clamps, and the color clamp is a doozy to
close. Should I have removed the felt pads?

Glenn

What is a modified cartridge clamp? I'm using an inkjetgoodies CIS system.
There is nothing to hold the cartridges in except the felt pads, what
are you trying to close?

Sorry, I assumed CFS. MIS offers clamps to replace the Epsons -- you know,
the clamps that originally hold the OEM carts in place. Superior
arrangement, they claim, to supplement the felt pads. I only mentioned them
because they were my first clue that the color cartridge was not fully
seated.

In that regard can I safely (not too messily) pull the cart out and try to
reseat it?

I didn't know there were such clamps. Yes, you can pull them up and
reseat them, as many times as you want. No
problems should arise. you must hit that little switch in there so it
recognizes the cartridges.

Thanks, Jerry. I did reseat the color cart. It still does not sit as low
as the black one, but it now works. I have a few minor clogs, but the
printer has been sitting idle waiting for me to figure this out. :-)

This is the only post I saw on this so I don't know the thread. But
I'll just jump in and say that if you're using an f-16 you probably
have an 1270/1280/1290. AFAIK, only the 1160, 860, maybe 3000, etc has
a switch. The chipped printers sense the cart through the chip so you
don't have to push on a switch.

Watch out for blowing out chips (and therby sending f-16 into a tizzy)
if you pull up or push down on carts slightly- if printer is not
turned off and unplugged, there is a fair chance you can blow out the
MIS chips and you would then have to get free new ones from MIS and
install. In fact, this is what the cart clamps help alot in preventing
(red light errors when carts ride up). I don't know what problems you
were having but if you don't have the modified cart clamps, you should
get them- they work like a charm and are cheap, easy to install. $10
US for both.
