1280 banding.

1280 banding.

The problem is vertical banding in dark gray areas. Here is a scan of
a dark gray patch:
http://www.joshwertheimer.com/gsr/linesingray.JPG
This happens when printing on Heavyweight Matte, Photo Paper, or any
other paper I've tried. I don't expect the printout to be dot free,
but I would think I should get a continuous gray tone. Nozzle checks
are perfect. Head alignment helped a little. I am using the latest
drivers, and I got the printer yesterday.

Thanks.

that looks to me like BO on a 1280. If you used quad UT2 that would be
about perfect. If it is BO, that is exactly my beef with black only.
So, It seems like lots of people are ignoring an elephant in the middle
of the room when it comes to BO on a 1280. People talk like it is a
viable thing to have a 1280 for color and Mono using BO. I dont think
so. Of course, all this is "if" that swatch is done black only! that
swatch looks exactly like my 1280 in BO, and other BO prints I have
seen. And it does not good enough. If you show that to some guy who
doesnt have any interest in printing or photography, he will " you must
have a good printer".....if you show a UT2 print, he will say "where
did you get that developed?".....those two comments are not
equal......I'm just a beginner, but I have heard those comments when
show freinds my prints....Doug M

If Josh's scan is typical of BO on a 1280, I guess I'll have to give
up on the idea of using the 1280 for BO and color. Dang.

When switching between color inks and UT2 inks, how much is lost to
purging?

Josh
I cannot tell what scale your image is. The banding I see under a
magnifying glass when the heads are out of alignment does not look
like that. Then it is discreet rows of dots forming lines that at a
distance can be seen as bands.
At a larger scale I sometimes see these dark areas and I put it down
to the liquid soaking into the paper and causing it to ripple. I must
also admit that the dark bands are at right angles to the direction
of the heads... I have seen it a lot on EEM.

Yes, it was BO. I should have said that.

I've had this happen to me with my 1280 unsing MIS on Prem Luster. I thought it might me a roller problem since I did not see it on EEM.

Hello Sean,

>see: http://www.sbphoto.net/Banding.htm

I had this happen once on a sample image downloaded from dpReview.com.
I thought something had happened to my printer and spent a lot of
time printing it with various settings, to no avail. It was on every
print but did not show on screen. I thought my printer was broken.
Then I printed some of my images and all were fine. Whatever caused
it, it was only in that image, and it looked exactly like your scan.
So you might try some other images before you conclude it's a printer
problem

Clayton

I have thought I had probelms printing test files on occasion. Then I
realized that my prints of my photos looked fine.

Solution: I quit printing the test files and went back to printing my
photos.
