R2400 & MIS ink problems

R2400 & MIS ink problems

2007-10-02 by Harry B Houchins

I just tried using some inks as recommended by Paul Rouke -
EZW-T0444-Y, K4-T0559-SLC & K4-T0597-SLC. I placed them into the
printer and ran a noozle check. These three cartridges failed to
produce a perfect pattern. Not even close...
I ran a cleaning cycle with no discernable improvement. In fact I
repeated the cleaning and noozle check three more times with little
improvement. I replaced the MIS cartridges with Epson's and no problem.
I had this problem with MIS inks on my old R1820.
A search of the archives revealed no discussions of this proble that I
could find.
Any suggestions?

Harry B Houchins

Be sure the tape over the air inlet is removed.

If the carts have not been stored outlet down, there could be an air bubble
there.

Harry;

As Paul indicated, the culprit is usualy an air pocket around the ink
outlet. If you don't already have one, get a syringe (and some bottom
fill adaptors), and use it to pull any air out of the outlet area.

My advice...

Stick with the OEM inks. I had no end of problems with the MIS inks.

I like the results I got with MIS Eboni but just too many problems

Dave.

I know we are talking about the R2400 with it's K3 inks. But what if I
own an R1800 and want to do 3MK BO printing with OEM MK ink?

Has anyone tried using three OEM MK carts and replacing the chip (and
cutting the plastic protrusions) so that they would fit in the PK and
GLO positions?

Just curious... still using MIS Eboni and no problem so far.

Re: R2400 & MIS ink problems

2007-10-03 by Harry B Houchins

Thanks Paul and Steve for responding to my inquiry.

So, the problem is air in the tank where ink flows into the printer.
Yes, there is definitely air in all three of the cartridges in the
feed to the printer. As a result I need to get a syringe, a bottom
fill adapter and $54.00 worth of bulk ink (or remove the cap of the
three cartridges I now have and risk not being able to replace with a
good air seal) in order to use these cartridges. All three have this
problem. 100% is a pretty high percentage with the problem, don't you
think?
If I recall my experience with MIS inks and my old 1270 and 1280, most
of those gave this same poor printing problem. And even after the
printer test and cleaning routines came out perfect, after a brief
period of inactivity the problem returns.
It seems to me that I am expected to do and spend a lot in order to
overcome what I think is poor quality control and/or design of these
cartridges. While these ink sets may be just what I'm looking for -
unfortunately, I can't test with these lousy cartridges - frankly, it
is not worth the effort.

Thanks, but I will turn elsewhere (Piezography? Media Street?).

I'll second that. My experience exactly.

I prefer to print rather than to continually be trying to fix problems.

This surprises me. I've been using Eboni for a couple of years in my 2200
with almost no clogs. Of course, I leave the printer turned on all the time
and I have the superstitious feeling that this helps prevent clogs.

I suppose there is a learning curve those of us who use MIS inks go through
that we may not even think much about at this point.

The MIS principal once told me that the main difference he found in the
pre-loaded carts was that Epson can pull a better vacuum than he could.
That is, Epson is able to remove more of the air from the cart. Because
there may be some air left in MIS carts, I always store them outlet down
and, if they've just arrived in the mail and I want to use them immediately,
before I open them I whip them like one does to lower a thermometer reading
to force the ink to the outlet.

My experience has been fairly good also, at least once I quit using a
1280 with pigments in it. But I have this cleaning song&dance I go
through every 2-3 months to remove goo & build-ups that gum up the
bottom of the head & cause more trouble when you try to do a cleaning
cycle. That helps a lot...
