Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum having just acquired a VFX-SD. I am enjoying using it and exploring it's odd menus, but am unable to load the sequencer thanks to the following error when I click 'Load': "Disk Error : Bad Device ID" Is this because the disk drive needs replacing or is it more likely that it's just the one single disk i have is corrupted? Has anyone else seen this error? I thank you for your help! Rich

Thank you for the very swift advice. Glad to hear my drive may still be operational!
Thanks again
Get a blank floppy and see if you can format it and save banks to it.That will help rule out the floppy as the cause of the problem.I believe the SD sees all floppies as Single Density even if they have the HD cutout on the floppy - so it shouldn't matter what you use.On Jun 13, 2013, at 12:33 PM, Stakker wrote:Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum having just acquired a VFX-SD.

Another thought occurs to me... How are your technical skills? I'm questioning whether the floppy drive has seen much use, or what environments it may have been in. The heads might be dirty, or there might be actual dust in the drive. If the attempt at formatting a disk doesn't work, I'd advise giving the drive a cleaning; possibly with a shot of air.

I've tried using some air and blowing into it, but it didn't improve. i also tried formatting the only disk i've got, but it didn't help. I'll give it a go with an HD disk, I'm sure i've got one lying about. thanks for all this advice. Richard --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "Rob Rosenbrock" <bester@...> wrote:

you shouldn't use HD floppies in a DD drive, the floppies will wear out faster.

In DD drives only DD disks should be used without problems with data or even disk drive. HD disks with closed hole formatted to DD shouldn't be used. HD drives can read both DD and HD disks. Daniel Forro

ie all diskettes look like a DD to it.

I used to use HD disks on my Amiga and they had a tendency to wear out quick and not be usable as backup disks either

My floppy drive would not format a disk. But when I formatted one using my PC, it properly saved sequences and patches. So I formatted a bunch of HD disks, taped the hole closed, and they've been working for me for a while now. --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "Stakker" <richard.baldwin@...> wrote:
